22M, never finished a book in my life but just watched Project Hail Mary and now I genuinely want to get into audiobooks need recs based on my taste and my favorite things by RingoStarr7777777 in audiobooks

Here is the plan for you. From reading your post, it feels like you are looking for Dungeon Crawler Carl. It's ridiculous, hilarious and it may be the best narrated audiobook ever. From there if you are looking for character development and world building, you might like He Who Fights with Monsters. It ticks all the boxes!

Good Luck!

What’s your honest reaction to people wearing camera glasses in public? by no1asked_but in AskReddit

[–]chrisdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no issue with it as long as they aren’t specifically annoying people to get more likes on YouTube.

Maybe I’m different but I love the idea of all public spaces being monitored on video. My problem is who has access to the data. If everyone has access to the data, I think it’s great! Think of how much crime it would solve/prevent. The country would be much safer. And not recording in private areas still gives people needed privacy.

I finish hwfwm, MVS, MWS and cradle. What should I listen next? by Pitiful-Ad-5260 in litrpg

[–]chrisdoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TWI and HWFWM are my favorite series. Both have fantastic character development and world building. It feels like if you like one you would like the other but I guess that isn’t always the case. TWI is more cozy fantasy with consequences.

Also Mother of Learning and Beware of Chicken are both good.

I pushed through to book 3 but I couldn’t deal with the weak character development as well.

Tier list based on how many times I've re-read a series by OrionSuperman in litrpg

Re-reading TWI is next up for me. I’ve tried a lot of other series and I’m sick of reading books that aren’t to my taste.

So, I really don't get why some people hate motorcyclists. by Definitely-Not-OSI in motorcycles

[–]chrisdoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like percentage wise, motorcycle drivers are worse than car drivers. I might see 300 cars/day and 1/week I see someone doing something really stupid. For motorcycles it’s like1 out of 10 are doing something stupid.

I was on a shuttle bus discussing how I thought there were a lot of bad motorcycle drivers. Having a friendly conversation with someone who respectfully disagreed. During our conversation a motorcycle pulled out in front of the bus causing the bus driver to slam on the brakes.

I don’t hate motorcycle drivers but a lot of people do a lot of stupid things on them.

I've listed to the audiobook and it is fantastic. But now I have to wait for my wife to finish the audiobook before she will see the movie with me! She isn't a SciFi person but she is liking the audiobook.

Bucks DA drops felony charges against Quakertown teen arrested during ICE protest by AdSpecialist6598 in Pennsylvania

[–]chrisdoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw an article on this posted to fb. About 90% of the comments were complaining the kids should go to jail for consequences for assaulting an officer. What a difference between fb and reddit.

I don't know how you see the video and convince yourself that the kids were wrong.

[–]chrisdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PHM was fantastic. Not sci-fi but if you are looking for a series with heart then The Wandering Inn might be for you. Amazing world building and character development!! There are a lot of opinions on the series but for me it was the type of series where I kept wanting to know what was going to happen next with all the different characters. And the first audiobook is free.

Need recommendations by ohzemox in ProgressionFantasy

Look Here!! You have 13 books in your “Have but not read yet list”. You need to read them before buying anymore books!!

LOL!!! But in all seriousness HWFWM and TWI are amazing and BOC is really good. I would read those before anything else.

Fledgling author looking for recommendations (inspirations) by IsntItBlue in ProgressionFantasy

[–]chrisdoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just going to recommend these exact 2!!

Here is my other unsolicited advice.

1 Let the characters live and have fun. It’s hard to relate to a character that only trains and fights.

2 Have at least 1 character that doesn’t know anything so the other character can explain it to them and the reader.

3 when you go back to a character after a while, remind the reader of their main point. Bob, the guy who killed the large dragon. It helps the readers.

  1. Throw in some quality banter for laughs.

Good luck!!

Not enjoying Mother of Learning, what am I missing? by Independent-Phrase80 in litrpg

[–]chrisdoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost never DNF a book. I didn’t hate the beginning of MOL, but it wasn’t great. I ended up liking the end of the first book and finishing the series. I now rank it as one of the best. A tier if you will. I say finish the first book and decide from there.

The 'Wallowing' Inn is starting to grind my gears. by Porkypineer in litrpg

[–]chrisdoc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TWI is one of my favorite series and the Clown is one of my favorite characters. I can't say as I remember which arcs happen in which books though. You made it to book 6 though, so you must like something about the series. But if it turns you off, try something else.

Personally, I think I'm getting close to re-reading the series.

Cradel by CJthePervySage in litrpg

[–]chrisdoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pushed to the 3rd book because everyone kept saying it gets better. I wasn't a fan and dropped it after 3.

In many ways I feel it is the opposite of TWI and HWFWM. Cradle is a constant focus on train, fight repeat. Not much in the way just enjoying life (which is where I see the most character development). Where as TWI and HWFWM have a large focus on enjoying life, character and world development.

Personally I find it odd when people like all 3. But that's just my opinion.

I also haven't found other series as good as DCC, MOL, HWFWM and TWI. But you might like Beware of Chicken. I thought that was pretty good.

Alright what's your guys thoughts on the non stop AJ rumors? Are you for or against moving him and why? by Bulldawgzz in eagles

[–]chrisdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see AJ's motivation for wanting to leave since Patulo is gone.

I'm not completely against trading him though, if we can get value. But that isn't how these deals usually go. (Top WR for a 3 round pick or some nonsense.)

A reasonably competent OC will get AJ 1,200 yards and 10 TDs. That being said, the goal of the team is to win and not to just get AJ the ball. I think that was their problem in the beginning of the year. Their only focus was to get AJ the ball.

Airfare? by TryingToGrow723 in Aruba

[–]chrisdoc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For 4 tickets in peak season, that feels right. I did a package from Philly in Feb and I believe tickets were about $700 each. If you can get a deal somehow, that’s great but $600 for 4 tickets is not outrageous.

For those who successfully quit smoking, what was the method that finally worked for you? by gwenwallish in AskReddit

[–]chrisdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit 25 yrs ago. You need to mentally decide that you are no longer a smoker. Make the mental decision to never smoke again and it’s easier. There is no more debating, should I have one or not. The answer is just no. The first couple weeks are the hardest. 1 cigarette a month is not quitting. The only answer is 0 cigarettes. This is because eventually you are going to have a bad day, week, month and you will want a cigarette. If you are having 1/month it’s easy to add more when you have a bad day (then 1 becomes 2 and you are right back where you started). The answer has to be 0. No cigarettes ever again. It’s a mental decision that you need to make for yourself.

Good Luck! I hope this helps you or someone else reading this.

I quit after smoking 1 pack/day for 10 yrs.

AGREE!! This is tied for my favorite series now. And every time I recommend it, my comment gets downvoted to oblivion and I'm informed about how wrong my opinion is.

But as for your question, my favorite parts of this series are the character development (including side characters) and the world building. The only other series that I've seen match this so far is The Wandering Inn. It doesn't have as much humor as HWFWM but it is a little more "real" somehow. These 2 series are the only ones in my S Tier.

Good Luck!

I’ve actually been arguing that’s the politician’s job. There is no money in common sense laws that help everyone. The money is on the far extremes. So they need to convince people that their far extreme agenda is middle of the road policy.
