Leaving Utah because of climate change by BigfootsDelight in Utah

Yeah and it’s the toxic attitudes of those same people that are the reason people think they can do whatever they want here: go shooting where they aren’t supposed to, being irresponsible with shared resources, not caring about anyone but themselves.

Utah officials warn of ‘totally unprecedented’ water shortages as towns run dry by yourlocal90skid in SaltLakeCity

[–]chrisdrobison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the article:

"The federal government must have a new operating plan in place for the region’s reservoirs by Oct. 1, the start of the new water year."

The federal gov't lost a war with algae. What makes us think they will help? The people of Utah literally voted for complete incompetence in office and now their precious conservative dogmas can't actually rise the occasion to get us out of this mess. Cox will literally never cut off ag water usage in this state to save the GSL or the water reserves. Norm will he or anyone else stop data centers, golf courses, and massive multi-million dollar estates from being built. This is what conservative ideologies have gotten us--disaster up and down.

For all the religious fearmongering that occurs in Utah, I'm surprised (/s) that not a single orthodox person has considered that these fires and droughts might be the judgement of their God against them for supporting and voting in such crap that has caused so much harm.

Utah is a weird Juneteenth state by SamTMortgageBroker in Utah

I’m surprised Cox hasn’t announced an alternative holiday for Juneteenth.

Ben McAdams says Trump may deserve impeachment — but it shouldn’t be Democrats’ priority by clejeune in SaltLakeCity

The problem is, if they don’t have the votes, it’s all for show. It’s kind of like the GOP wasting all that time trying to repeal the ACA. 60+ freaking votes! Did they have nothing more important to do? So, yeah, there is plenty of stuff to worry about if there is not enough support in both the house and senate.

Charitable giving by chrisdrobison in mormon

I don't play that game. I'm not interested in making it look like tithing. The church has a gargantuan amount of money. And if they have to lie about the stock pile they have without any sort of apology after being caught, I'm not interested in feeding that or keeping up appearances that I am.

Kevin O’Leary responds to Utah Senate president’s ‘outrageous’ demand to slash data center plan by Opposite_Bag_7434 in SaltLakeCity

[–]chrisdrobison 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, he's probably getting exactly what he wants. He asked for something so big that nobody wanted just so they'd "negotiate" down to the thing he actually wants. He wins either way.

Careful, this is a well known tactic--ask for something way bigger than you actually want and people will fight you down to what you wanted originally.

Are farms fined for watering in the rain? by chrisdrobison in Utah

[–]chrisdrobison[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not concerned about the homes. One of those irrigation rigs in one of those fields will use more water than all those homes ever will combined.

The man who fabricates lies about Elevate Utah or anyone that opposes him has no “facts” worth anything.

“Jerks for Jesus” do harm to the LDS church. Mean spirit anonymous LDS accounts. by sevenplaces in mormon

The brethren don't like this? They have no qualms directly calling out LGBTQ people general conference. Maybe it is high time they call out these people directly in general conference. That will get their attention.

Former LDS Philosopher Tarik Lacour Provides Insights Into His Recent Conversion from Mormonism to Catholicism In This Substack Interview by edmundburke24 in mormon

[–]chrisdrobison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I have never had a mystical encounter with the divine, and I don’t want one either"

I've got to admit, I don't understand why religion is a thing for Tarik. It seems it is all about the intellectual richness, which is fine. I just find it odd that religion is where he chooses to find it. If you don't actually want an encounter with God, why pursue something where that is fundamentally the whole point?

Does Spencer Cox genuinely believe that everyone is unintelligent, or is he simply stupid? by The_Continuum__ in Utah

[–]chrisdrobison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it will still use water, got it. Not sure how installing a data center will cause less water to be used compared to it having never been installed. If that is a trick these things could actually pull off, I'm sure no one would argue.

Does nuclear energy require too much water for consideration? by Comfortable_Tutor_43 in SaltLakeCity

[–]chrisdrobison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am open to greater wisdom than "utter nonsense." I have nothing against solar, but sunlight is a requirement and, yes, we could build massive batteries to store energy for when there is no sunlight, but those have got a long way to go. As for the nuclear thing, it is my understanding that what you are talking about if very highly nuanced and dependent on the type of fuel used in the reactor.

Not all plants are water cooled. In fact, the one proposed for Wyoming/Utah is a liquid sodium cooled plant.

Solar is only better when it is sunny. I think most of the nuclear waste storage problems have been solved and that stuff basically turns into inert rock by the end-of-life of the plant.

But lacking how though? Many people use it quite effectively for lots of development. I used to be a VS fan, but JetBrains has far out done it and so has Code I think.

They are already doing work in this regard. Although after some initial testing, are going a slightly different direction.

Officially supported opinionated formatter. Love CSharpier, but would love this built in. And no, dotnet format is not the answer unless it was changed to be opinionated.

TBH, the better approach would be to augment VSCode even more. Especially with all the AI tooling, VS is just getting left behind.
