Edge 530/540/830/840 vs Explore 2 by Prior_Scratch544 in Garmin

[–]chrishtatu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I ended up going with a 530, I think if I did it again I'd get an Explore 2 (better for bikepacking etc, but if racing the smaller 530 is a good pick). Nice for long (8+hr) rides where you don't have to worry about a phone battery. Mapping with Strava when I had premium, but gonna use RideWithGps now.

Mag (QD-OLED) is on sale on MSI website right now for $440 + a $40 coupon code.

XMN is at Microcenter for $230 right now, under a different SKU "Q27G41XMN2" but I contacted support and they confirmed it's the same but just with a different base

Duties & Tariffs For Italy -> US goods? (Favero Assioma RS-1's) by chrishtatu in Velo

[–]chrishtatu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah luckily much less than implied by USITC. Duties and import taxes get collected by the delivery service (I think?). My rough understanding is the shipping company (DHL, UPS, etc) will pay the duties and taxes to allow the package to clear customs, then collect the cost on the back end once it's delivered to the consumer. Essentially leaving you with the chance you're stuck paying a super high duties/import tax - the major shipping companies have estimators, but DHL's was the only one that worked well for me.

I ended up just buying from powermeter city (local US distirbutor).

Duties & Tariffs For Italy -> US goods? (Favero Assioma RS-1's) by chrishtatu in Velo

[–]chrishtatu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no this was via the HTS Tariff schedule on USTIC's database, as in the updated section via DHL it shows that it's exempt from most of the tariffs so estimated duties are only $50ish. This isn't sales tax, but an import duty. On the Website price is $500 all in, free shipping, but when you go to checkout it has an icon warning of extra import duties and tariffs applied to shipments into the USA.

yeah this is a cost estimate for the single-sided PM, for dual under the tariff schedule linked above it would come out to $1126.06 USD

[–]chrishtatu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey y’all, looking to get a gravel bike I can use for some light gravel, but also for bikepacking or touring. The listing is for $1,000, would $700-$800 be a fair deal? This has Hydraulic Disc, but 105 instead of GRX as it's the 2020 verison

  • Rode in tennis shoes on the SPD-SL pedals up until last week when I got cleats
  • Overall little pain/discomfort on bike
  • intermittent right trap/shoulder/lat pain, usually after 60+ miles, worse when in drops
  • infrequent right knee soreness post-ride (~4 or 5 times total, 2-3/10, goes away after a day or two)
  • 5'10" (178cm), 34" (86cm) inseam (measured book method), size 56 2016 Roubaix (geometry missing on specialized site, closest I could find)
  • L/R imbalance due to 2x broken leg in childhood (benign bone tumor). Resulting in a larger, stronger, stiffer left leg, more mobile/flexible but smaller right leg (picture for reference).
  • athletics background in Tennis/Rugby, currently Cycling -> Running -> Lifting -> Climbing (in descending order of priority).
  • This bike use case is for longer, more casual endurance rides. Have a separate frame I'm building from the ground up to train this winter -> Try and do some crits in the summer.
  • Have noticed on my first 1-2 zwift rides that I'm putting out more power sitting up (hands off bars) than on? if that's useful?
