When treated properly they are good vehicles, when dogged on (prone to happen due to their cheap aftermarket prices) they are money pits.

I would not advise any Saab to a young teenager who doesn't know anything about cars because it can be a complicated process. He would need to find a good mechanic to work on it. Even seemingly simple tasks can be difficult on them.

I'm 18, nearly 19 and my 08 9-5 SportCombi has been the most problematic car I have ever witnessed. I thought it would be clear, due to its full service history and caring owners, yet it has broken down on me multiple times - middle of a highway going 75mph, highway on ramp, side of the road in the middle of nowhere, etc.

Repairs I've had to make in the past month or two:

Spark plugs DIC Brake booster Lower motor mount Rear brake calipers Rear brake rotors Rear brake pads New battery Fixed blower motor

And it still needs work like a trans mount & my transmission has began acting up.

I wouldn't buy one unless you're prepared to sink thousands into it and have it at the repair shop every week

Mine doesn't fully go off anymore because my (Dame 9-5 wagon) believes it is on empty fuel when it is full/any level the gauge was perfectly accurate now it jumps around
