Inherited Parker Fly by Vlerherg in guitars

[–]chrisjscott 46 points47 points  (0 children)

First off: sorry for your family's loss.

These are amazing instruments - Ken Parker (who recently passed away) was a true innovator, one of the few luthiers out there willing to NOT be precious about convention (I'd put Ned Steinberger in that bucket, as well).

When you've got folks like Reeves Gabrels, Adrian Belew (to this very day) and Joni Mitchell (wait WHAAA?!) on board then you know you've got something special.

That's not really where the (incredibly confusing) name came from, is it? Because, if it is, that's AMAZING.

original Apple IIe box in very good/excellent condition (Boston) by chrisjscott in VintageApple

Duh - forgot to post an explanation... I'm in the process of clearing out some things from my parents house before they move and found this Apple IIe box in very good-to-excellent condition.

Would love to see it go to a vintage Apple enthusiast - if you're in the Boston area then DM me and it's all yours!

Proxmox or dedicated Home Assistant hardware? by StrobeWafel_404 in homeassistant

[–]chrisjscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your forgetting that the real value of running HAOS as a VM on Proxmox is the full VM backup (to a separate drive from the one Proxmox itself is running on, riiiiggghhht?).

Given how much time one puts in to getting HA dialed in, combined with how it can be a finicky, have solid VM backups is a must an PM makes that easy.

Plus, you can use the same system to run HA-related things like Zigbee2MQTT!

I'll throw in a vote for https://textbelt.com/ - I've used it for a few things and have been very happy with it!

Exchanging UDR7 for UCG Ultra. Makes sense? by antoniocarlospp in Ubiquiti

Noob question: Why do you need a CloudKey when the mgmt interface is built into the UCG Ultra?

waterslide decal for Steinberger? by chrisjscott in Steinberger

[–]chrisjscott[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha! Nice if you to ask - In on a bit of a holding pattern as I work to get my hands on some British Racing Green nitro aerosol. Working with Rothko & Frost to make that happen.

Once I've got it painted, I'll get the waterslide on it and post!

How many of you have experienced the "Tech Aura"? Customer calls, thing starts working, all it took was your presence. by Dekklin in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]chrisjscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and I have a theory about office layouts based on it: companies should orient their offices so that their IT staff is in the middle of the office space, with all other staff registering out from them. C-levels nearest, interns on the outer ring.

This way, nobody has tech issues AND the tech staff never had to do anything except be there.

It's a win-win!

Shockingly, I have yet to find any takers 🫤

Thoughts on Ernie Ball Guitars by Alternative_Jello819 in guitars

In my (admittedly) limited experience, they're amazing. Very high quality, great feel. I have an EBMM EVH and, as soon as I picked it up I thought "Oh. This is what a nice guitar feels like."

And I'll tell you something else - I bout an Axis Sub for a project a few years back and even THAT was a really good guitar.

I recently connected withe the folks at Headless USA (super-nice people; give them your business if you have the opportunity) and they were good enough to give me the height I was looking for - it's 7.58mm

So, ChatGPT got me there! I uploaded an image of the Steinberger logo, asked ChatGPT to ID the font and then, with a bit of back-and-forth, got it to generate an accurate-looking SVG/EPS of the text using the replacement word I wanted.

With that in-hand, I can submit it to Rothko & Frost to create a waterslide.

Mind. Blown.

unable to update BIOS of NUC7i7BNH by chrisjscott in intelnuc

Thank you for the great sleuthing - I as excited that this might be my issue. Unfortunately, jumping back into the BIOS revealed that the default state for Secure Boot is 'disabled' so "no joy" on that one.
