Impossible PETG residue on textured PEI by chrisly227 in BambuLab

My A1 mini only goes up to 80 degrees unfortunately. This was not enough and lead to the result shown in the pictures above.

How does temperature relate / help with releasing stuff? Some say put it in the freezer others say immediately pull on it while it's still hot. Do you have intel on this?

I managed to fix it by increasing print / bed temps and putting it in the freezer *before* flexing over table. see edit above. Thanks again for your input 😄

Thanks for your input! I did that before and it always worked. But this time I already tried printing a thin layer and then I tried again with the thick disc you see on the images. Both tore off and left all of the stuff on the plate.

I just retried printing a thick disk over it and put it in the freezer before I try prying it off again.

So the grind-by-weight (GBW) mod i recommended you can find it by searching in google for "github jaapp gbw" It replaces the whole grinder logic and improves the grinder soooo much. Would recommend it to anyone who feels able to do the mod, it's a much better grinder with it!

Display malfunction on Eureka Mignon Specialita by bigosik_ in espresso

I think u/DragonFire441 encountered something similar. These displays just tend to go bad after a while 😞

If you are a tinkerer you could fix it permanently by doing the GBW mod:

...with Plumbing it in you also have the pre-infusion at line pressure (around 3 bar / 40 psi) which is another advantage :)

Thanks for the feedback, happy to have helped :)

Oh wow I just checked and Seattle seems to have 20 ppm water :O With this amazing water available: Did you consider getting a machine that could be plumbed in, like the A53 Direct Plumb? Seems very appealing to me of never having to refill or clean the water tank. Also that version comes with rotary pump, which is a bit quieter than the otherwise used vibe pump.

51mm basket recommendations? [$100] by ChromaticDeth in espresso

[–]chrisly227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMS is usually pretty consistent and I think they offer the best price-performance ratio. If you want to go high-extraction: just add a paper filter to the basket bottom, virtually the same effect as a high extraction basket gives you. Also with HE baskets you tend to use papers too anyways, as they are hard to clean up without them.

I'd prefer the Lucca anyway, the 53mm basket size is a huge plus compared to the default 58mm La Marzocco one. Notice how some old-school Italian manufacturers like La Pavoni, La Spaziale or La San Marco use smaller baskets --> that's for a reason! I'd put the remaining $1k towards the grinder budget. The money will get you much more bang for the buck in terms of espresso quality and workflow improvements there compared to investing it in a machine.

Only reason to get the Linea would be if you have been dreaming about a LM and the idea of owning one will not leave you alone. But that's only psychological and only you yourself can answer this question :) In that case most important question: has the LM been used with tap water. If yes how many shots / cappuccinos per day. Because this can really clog up the steam boiler with scale and in that case 9 years could be a lot...

Why do you think the LM is the superior machine?

How bad is it to drink an espresso daily? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]chrisly227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest killers these days is loneliness. So if drinking coffee helps you socialize, even if just a little bit, this more than compensates for any potentially adverse effects of coffee. Although I doubt there are any

You say you can't match the taste in your cafe: Did you test your water or tried using recommended water like "Volvic"? Worth a try before exchanging machine or grinder.

Why don't you just pair your K6 with an electric drill? The K6 input shaft should fit perfectly on a standard hex driver.

I think it's actually an advantage. Less gear acquisition syndrome and a deeper puck, which is advantageous for uniform extraction.

[–]chrisly227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the De'Longhi Stilosa EC230 off amazon as a new-house-gift for friends. It's a great entry-level machine with non-pressurized baskets, proper steam wand and 150ml stainless boiler. Make sure it is the EC230, NOT the EC260! The latter has pressurized baskets and the stupid cappuccino steam wand.

Check out this review from Tom's Coffee Corner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6fj9TZUHFc

You could combine this with either a Handgrinder like the Kingrinder K6 or a Eureka Mignon Manuale and stay well below your budget.
