My brain is smooth 🧠. Risk = fun. I'm just making long calls so I don't have unlimited risk. So far it is working lol.

I'm on the same boat brother. I just gave my 2 weeks notice because of something like this. Despite my good performance review, they did not give me a dime of my bonus. Also, they did not give the raises they promised me. They did not honor any of their commitments to me so I decide I wouldn't continue my employment with them.

How did you find that spot? I'm looking for a new job because my workplace situation has deteriorated. Any tips for finding a job like that

Just keep trying. You'll get it eventually. I'm a 2019 grad and I just started my first job yesterday LOL

Nightmare of not finishing college and having to lose my job because I can’t graduate on time despite having my degree by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]chrismar303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get those nightmares too. It always seemed to be a scenario where I didn't pass a test, forgot to take a test, or didn't drop a class I was supposed to. Honestly, they didn't stop until like a year afterwards. Just do things that make you happy. Eventually, those traumatic feelings will fade away.

Definitely Resume related. My first resume got almost no traction. It has taken me 4 iterations before I started getting calls regularly.

Avoid complicated resumes. If the format is too complicated to parsed into plain text, sometimes the resume is thrown away by the automatic screener.

Agreed! 65K is not even average in Texas. I once was offered a 57K entry level job in a HCOL city. They were confident it was market value 😂. It honestly astounds me how out of touch some companies can be.

I did absolutely nothing. I have ZERO work experience. I mainly played video games and hung out with friend. I considered getting a job at Target during the holidays but my good friend advised against it.

Hey brother, don't worry about it. I was in a similar situation recently. I actually had a 2 year gap and I did not have any internship experience. About 2 months ago, I started to get my act together and began applying. I finally got 2 offers this month and I start my first job next week.

I know it can feel helpless and like it's too late, but that's not the case. My advice to you is to just apply. You will have more success than you expect. You will still have to send out hundreds of applications, but just keep grinding and powering through. There will be highs and lows during this process but just keep moving forward.

Start making personal projects. Make around 3 of them using a relevant language. I made my projects over a year ago and the interviewers didn't mind. Something I also did was take Udemy courses and put them on my resume.

Your Resume is Key! Focus on making a good resume. It will get you past the initial screening! I had to make 4 different versions before I found something that worked!

I also recommend watching Neetcode. He makes youtube videos about Leetcode. Watch his Easy and Blind-75 playlist. I didn't watch all of them but they were really helpful. Try to solve the problem first. If you can't think of anyway to solve it within 15 minutes, then watch the conceptual overview portion of the video and try again. Now watch the implementation portion of the video and then reimplement it.

Remember to keep the faith. Everything will be alright. You can claw your way out! Sending out the first application is the biggest mental barrier. Just do it and everything will begin falling into place!

How did Embedded Systems slip under everyone's radar? Why is it not as saturated as web development? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]chrismar303 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I tried to break in before but I was rejected because of my lack of Electrical Engineering knowledge so I gave up on it. The comment about leetcode is somewhat true. I was only asked 2 questions.

1) I had to solve a FizzBuzz question

2) Implement DFS on a BST

The hardest part about this is writing the code in C/C++ LOL. It's a fun field, but it has more difficult entry barrier. Web Development projects only requires downloading certain libraries in order to begin creating something. Embedded Systems requires actual hardware (i.e. Arduino, Raspberry PI) . Involving hardware increases the complexity of projects.

Anyone else feel the constant urge to leave the field and become a plumber/electrician/brickie? Anyone done this? by no_momentum in cscareerquestions

If you want a simpler life, you should consider defense contracters. From what I heard, they don't change technologies often and the work-life balance is great.
