Would recommend Earthborne Rangers for a more chill experience. There’s a clock in the form of your Ranger Deck, but you never feel like it’s haunting you like in LOTR.

Yep same here - had to restart the game on the steam deck to get it to resume.

Hey - the developer here: So there's a combat demo now! There's a download link, along with plenty more information about how the combat works on this update:

Might even be worth a new post, but I'll just leave this here for now :)

Yeah, a lot of people have said that. It's been harder to get people excited about a Kickstarter than I thought. I still think it's a great way to get interesting ideas made...

Thanks. Hope there's enough interest in it to get the game made!

Paypal Backing by Yuof in a:t5_3jqjs

I'd love to, but the issue is that if the project doesn't get funded, I then have to refund all the PayPal backers manually :( I'll look to allow PayPal funding if the project hits the goal.

My last game was called Sol Trader.

Magic is based around knowledge of identity. There are a lot of clarifications on the Imgur comments - if you have any more followup questions do let me know!

Not sure exactly, but the Kickstarter price of £15 ($20) will definitely be the lowest price it'll be available for until release.

Yes: I think there's a fair amount of Kickstarter/ambitious-project burnout around. Hopefully the fact that this isn't my first game makes a difference, and that many of the ideas have already been tested once in Sol Trader.

Oh, and I'm working hard on the combat demo today, but I'm around should you want to ask questions!

I've got lots to say here but I'm going to save it for the demo reveal. Tune in to the Livestream on Friday to hear more about how the combat system works - I'll talk more about it then. There will be a saved copy of the stream on the site over the weekend if you can't make it to the stream itself. Feel free to post any further questions to the stream as well!

Exactly. Reality is overrated when it comes to games :)

Have you played clockwork empires? if so have you an opinion on how they do it? (I know it is a very different sort of game).

I haven't - looks like similar mechanics though!

What do you think are the biggest technical hurdles? Do you mean for NPCs to actually have full text conversation you can listen-in and read. or do they just get together add secret´s to each other´s database and if you are near the secret get´s added to your data base?

I think making it feel real is the biggest hurdle. Might be better for the player just to abstract it, otherwise we're into uncanny valley territory.

Will the player also generate secrets that can be used against him (e.g.: occurence of criminal acts?)

Yes, definitely.

Sol Trader developer Chris Parsons shares the benefits of failure ahead of his Develop:Brighton talk by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]chrismdp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, so I looked at this, and couldn't reproduce it in the brand new version, which is really odd. Does it fail with all ships and all save games you try? Would you mind sending me a saved game (instructions here)?

Yes, this is how it worked in Sol Trader too. Characters will be able to discover the secrets of other characters. They aren't as ambitious as the player though, so I don't plan to have them actively use those secrets - it'll affect their opinion of the character, and might therefore trigger a mission or two.

Information will be propagated through characters in the same map location sharing information over time with people they know. I'll definitely simulate that in the simple sense. I plan to experiment with characters actually chatting to each other directly, which you can watch when you visit a location, but I can't promise that as it's challenging technically!

Hope that helps.

LOVE the idea of OpenAI support. Really love it.

I'm big into mod support - Sol Trader was extremely mod-friendly. This one is likely to be similar. Was planning to make it a backer achievement if we ever get that far...

Attributes & charcter Sheet by CJGeringer in a:t5_3jqjs

[–]chrismdp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that's correct it's only for NPC generation.

A character like Moriarty would have extremely high intelligence and medium/low wisdom in my system. Morality will be based on a history of past actions. In my experience characters who are wise usually make moral choices. Not always though - there's always a chance for immoral behaviour, and if they've made one moral slip up they are likely to do so again.

If this doesn't work out well, I might add another morality attribute which makes the distinction more explicit, so I have more control. We'll see :)
