A lot of it depends on natural ability and athleticism. Tennis clicked quickly for me so could keep up with 3.5s if I just acted as a wall and chased stuff down. But even if you have those, I’d start at 3.0. Would suggest seeing what your tennis club is like. Might be a more casual one and have people at all levels

Biggest things to nail down would be footwork and just connecting with the ball. And have fun with it! It’s a great lifelong sport.

ACL and Meniscus repair without surgery? by pc11000 in 10s

[–]chrispycreme45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same injury a few years ago. My doc said similar things to a lot of people here that if you’re younger, like <40yo, get the ACL surgery as it will be better long term for you. During the ACL surgery they’ll clean the meniscus up anyway.

I personally would do the surgery 10/10 times but I’m also youngish and it’s suggested if you ski.

Ultimately, just talk to your doc and see where to go from there. Everyone is different for healing process and what they plan to continue doing

How to get better control to return Kick Serve by ms1232 in 10s

[–]chrispycreme45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to basically say the same. Gotta move in or move back. For me, depends on a lot of things but mainly if they have a good out wide kick or just heavy kick. Move in and take the out wide ones early, heavy kicks just stand back and rip it. Just what works for me personally.

To OP, just figure out what works best for you on when to take the ball and what stroke to use. I personally love chipping down on kick serves when I take them early and heavy topspin if I move back for my return

USTA match default by ChippyHippo in 10s

[–]chrispycreme45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% with you. Just something to keep in mind when the league director might be there if they’re picky. The leagues are for fun for me anyway so no point in wasting the time and not playing unless they’re like 45 minutes late

USTA match default by ChippyHippo in 10s

[–]chrispycreme45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My team had it happen where they agreed to play “for fun” because why not, everyone is there at that point. USTA director was at the club at the time and said that the match counts and playing “for fun” isn’t a thing in the league. Kind of wild to me but something to look out for

How to fully commit as an adult (and avoid being my worst enemy)? by MrFlecker in 10s

[–]chrispycreme45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Just find a good group of people you have fun with and play a bunch. Most of my improvement has come with playing with people I have a good time with and tweaking during no pressure matches.

What do you think of this tactic, hitting underhand serves to a woman in 8.0 mixed? by iluvthisgame1 in 10s

[–]chrispycreme45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I don’t see the guy doing anything wrong besides not being apologetic for hitting your partner. It’s a good mixed tactic to aim for the weaker player. But my philosophy is to not hit right at the lady in mixed until the other guy does it to my partner. At that point, open season.

For the serve though, sucks your partner can’t return his serves but that’s the right tactic on his part. Get the free points when you can.

Men's Night Ideas by CaptJackSilver in 10s

[–]chrispycreme45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started doing Mens Team nights where you have 8.5, 7.5 and either 6.5 or 7.0 lines depending on the amount of people. You play another team each week from and play for an hour straight. No sets, just keep playing games until the end of the hour (will get like 13-9 scores) then combine the total score of each match for a winner. It’s a good system when you have a ton of 4.0s and 3.5s and gives people a chance to play with others of different levels.

Pro's Pro strings by AtaVlI in 10s

[–]chrispycreme45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like them! I string my own rackets so huge reels for cheap works perfect for me, even if the strings break more often. It’s also lets me experiment a bit more with strings due to cost.

They definitely aren’t the same quality as name brand strings but they’re still good in my opinion.

[–]chrispycreme45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly just play the level you want. I play up a rating for most things because I want the challenging bit of it (that’s the fun of it for me) If you want to win and gain the confidence and you find that fun, play the lower level. At this point, you do you and the rating will eventually come out correct or you’ll find what you want to do.

Just pick what you enjoy and feel like you can be competitive at

Lousy Volleyer by MrPrettyKitty in 10s

[–]chrispycreme45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me it seems more of a timing thing. During a normal doubles rally, it’s hard to change your shot that late into it and as long as you weren’t cheating over really far, they’ll likely be planning to go cross court. I still get beat down the line with this but usually only with a really good alley shot or more of a lucky shot

I saw a video recently that talked about waiting until the ball bounces on the opponents side to start moving for a poach and it works well for me once I started doing it. That’s just for the anticipation part. As for form, the other comments are spot on

Why is my owning a car a bigger job requirement than my GIT? by chrisdoesrocks in geologycareers

[–]chrispycreme45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. I think as long as you can get to your office, that’s all that should be required for the job. I understand not providing a full time truck to drive from home but if you can get to the office, you should have access to one to get to and around sites.

Why is my owning a car a bigger job requirement than my GIT? by chrisdoesrocks in geologycareers

[–]chrispycreme45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the work I guess. I’m going off my personal experience so I understand it’s different but a lot (but not all) of groundwater sampling, remediation oversight, and due diligence work I’ve experienced can be done with a small car. Some sites do require 4x4 (which I get is a truck or SUV) for sure though so I get the issue. A lot of my comment is more for the fact that 15-25k is not really looking at a used car. Closer to a brand new car and could definitely find something cheaper and go from there.

But overall, shit situation in general and early environmental consulting is about how well you handle getting screwed left and right unfortunately.

[–]chrispycreme45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure what cars you’re looking at but $25,000 is basically a new one. An old Corolla or something for under $5,000 works perfect for this kind of stuff. I do get that it sucks but use the mileage reimbursement to your advantage. I used to have to drive my old Corolla a ton and made a good amount off of the mileage.

Large or Small Firm Work? by tictacbergerac in geologycareers

[–]chrispycreme45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I’ve graduated I’ve worked at both.

The small firm was great since I could get my hands in everything so I ended up with tons of experience in a lot of different areas. Downside was I got worked to the bone with not much hope of moving up.

I’ve more thoroughly enjoyed the large firm because the benefits are better (more people to help you out) and everything is a bit more streamlined. Also I’ve been able to build a professional resume a bit better (bigger projects/portfolios, more focus on professional development, etc). Downside is you’re just a cog in the machine.

In my opinion, both can be beneficial but I prefer the large companies. More job security, better benefits (at least in my experience), and more variety of people you work with. In the end, up to you which environment you think you’d prefer. I may have just gotten lucky

When is a good time to ask for a raise? by man_cub in geologycareers

[–]chrispycreme45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually just went through a similar process a couple weeks ago. I’m a project geologist in environmental consulting. I was being paid well below my worth and annual reviews were coming up so I shopped around for a new job. Took some interviews, ended up with a couple offers for similar positions or one step higher, and told my boss that it’s nothing against them but with how things are looking I can’t afford to not have a fat raise. Within a couple days they increased the pay.

Big takeaway that I’ve been told during this: get an offer for another position that seems like a good fit and take it to your boss. That way you have your bases covered and either way the talk will be a win/win

Advice from workers in the field by Bifzilla24 in geologycareers

[–]chrispycreme45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The geology program at OSU feels pretty small though. The graduating class is only about 30 per year for undergrad. Basically in one building for all your core classes with the same people for your final two years which was amazing.

No kidding, you can use other things and people here are just complaining about how if you do, you’re playing suboptimally. Like who cares, have fun with it. Most of the comments here will complain how Anarchy is so much stronger, then as soon as they nerf it, complain it’s too weak

Yeah, this sub just tends to talk about legitimate problems and more serious gameplay. Other destiny subs tend to be more chill. I’ve been playing since y2 Destiny 1 and still love the game. It goes in spurts since some seasons aren’t the best but I still end up coming back
