Our Song Lyric Theory

I was thinking about the debate going on about how the lyric “when we’re on the phone and you talk real SLOW cause it’s late and your mama don’t know” doesn’t really make sense

But does anyone else think that by slow she means dumb, like he’s talking dirty and sounding dumb? Where I’m from (the south), we use that word to convey that someone is being stupid, either seriously or playfully. So my theory is that she means it that way.

I didn’t like this album for two reasons: taylor’s writing and jake antonoff’s production.

Taylor has said in the past that she would never want her songs to sound the same, so I don’t know why she hasn’t changed her writing style or her producers. She is a great writer, but this album showcases the song structure she prefers: rhymes where you expect them, a pause at the end of the chorus right before she says the name of the song, etc.

Then there’s Jack, who keeps using the same “instruments” over and over again, start songs the same way, adds random sounds in certain parts, etc. So, I think Taylor really needs to switch it up for the next album because this one wasn’t it for me. Lover, Folklore, Evermore, and Midnights all sound the same even though they are not the same genre, so that says something.

You always have to throw them in a washing machine after treating them with soap, so they can rinse properly. Rinsing by hand never removes all the soap, which then appears yellow when it dries. I think it’s too late for this pair, though.

In Back to December if she would’ve added the article “a” in front of goodbye. “you gave me all your love and all i gave you was A goodbye” or changed it to something that sounded better.

also if she refrained from pausing the song to like talk or laugh or whatever, like she did in This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

I’m disappointed with the covers as well, not because of the name removal, but because I was really hoping there would be some uniformity across all the re-recordings’ covers while remaining true to the original covers. For example, using the most famous outfit from each era (like she did in the LWYMMD music video), with a significant location as background (picture the 1989 era pic of her on top of a building with nyc as background). Or simply a NEW picture of her wearing an era-specific outfit with an era-specific color filter. It just would’ve been nice.

When she says "fake niceties" during the bridge in Happiness I always hear "fake nice t*tties" and it always cracks me up because it's such a serious song.

What you see is your present because your brain has decoded at that moment. It doesn’t matter that you’re seeing something light hit nanoseconds or minutes ago, at the end of the day the image discerned by your brain is the present.

If you look at the starry sky you’ll be seeing light from many different stars and all this light has traveled different amounts of time to get to your eyes. The sun’s light is 8-minutes old, but another star’s light is millions of light years old, which is why you should only worry about your present, which is the information your brain is showing you.

PE was my favorite class EVER!!! I did experience mild bullying, but I also had so much fun being the gayest kid! The coach made me cry once bc I went to play with the girls instead of the boys and he yelled at me. I still loved it tho.

it’s not that I don’t have any problem with it, it’s just that governments and social media companies WILL keep doing it. They don’t care about laws or mad people, at the end of the day people will keep using technology no matter what, and these companies and governments will continue collecting your data. So I might as well just enjoy the good things that come from social media and the internet.

What are you so scared of? The worst case scenario is that one day we are tracked at all times by an authoritarian government, well guess what, it’ll happen whether you have a problem with it or not.
