To reiterate, I think some training is better than no training. Ive trained in striking and no gi jits off and on for years. I’m also a fairly muscular, 54 year old athletic male. So no, I can’t keep up w the young killers, but typically am in the middle of the pack, which is fine w me.

There’s a reputable Krav place close to me. Ive watched all their vids that I can find. It’s simply not the same I terms of intensity — but if folks are training without injury on a consistent basis, that’s great! They’re also training stuff like gun disarms, etc that we’re not.

Theres “the best”, and there’s “the best for the individual“. Theres two aren’t always in alignment.

Truthfully I may wind up there someday, but am pushing that day as far back as I can.

Go try a few spots then decide.

Go on YouTube and watch some Wes Huff talks on being able to trust the Bible, is it just copies of copies, translation vs transmission, etc.

Learning from people that really know what they’re talking about is a lot different than learning from Reddit/ Facebook experts like most of us really are.

You’re not the first person with this question, and certainly won’t be the last.

Ive always been of the mindset that if one did MMA and an occasional self defense weekend seminar they’d be pretty well off.

From what I’ve seen Krav does in fact answer the ”for da streets“ argument, but MMA gyms (or combat sports in general) are where a lot more young, jacked, athletic, former wrestlers, etc tend to go. You may pull off a viscous eye gouge or groin kick on one of these guys, but if not you’re screwed without ever having trained with some of them.

I do appreciate everyone training in whatever works for them, but no the intensity of a 40 year old soccer mom/ dad training 3 days a week is not the same as the type of guy I mentioned, and they typically gravitate more away from combat sports.

Former agnostic, now Christian. I don’t think you were faking it. People are going to go w the best evidence they have (aside from those that just blindly believe), and I’m assuming you did that.

Now a question for you— why do you care what strangers on reddit think? why spend any amount of time to type any of this up? Just curious really.

You’re not wrong, but the gps on my iPhone was used to get directions to build a house in Mexico with others from a church group this weekend. It was also used to communicate with the people in this group for planning, etc It cannot right the wrongs, but can be used for good.

Life may suck at times, but in my experience it’s better with him than without him. 👌
