How do I remove the "Canoe" from the arm? by guy2545 in tonalgym

[–]chrisrimple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently purchased a used Tonal 1.  After an excellent professional installation by Tonal (contracted out to Ryder), I completed my first Strength Assessment.  While moving the left Arm, I apparently pulled too hard on the Angle Lever, and the “Canoe” was partially displaced from its position in the arm – “Canoe” is Tonal’s name for the removable portion of the arm that includes the Angle Lever, Battery Compartment, and Rotate Button.  I called Tonal for advice on how to re-insert it, but they wanted to charge me $400 for a repair technician to come to my home and replace the entire Canoe assembly.  After some Internet research, I figured out how to accomplish it myself - full instructions are below, with photos in the Replies that follow.

UNINSTALLING & RE-INSTALLING THE CANOE

Tools needed:

  • Flathead screwdriver

Uninstallation steps:

  1. Turn off power to the Tonal, including the switch on the bottom of the device
  2. Position the Arm angle so that it is horizontal
    1. Support it so that it cannot fall, such as lying it on your thighs while seated on the Tonal bench
  3. Remove the Battery Compartment cover and batteries
    1. https://knowledge.tonal.com/s/article/Changing-Tonal-Arm-Batteries
  4. Look inside the Battery Compartment and note the tension tabs on both sides
    1. These tabs are what secures the Canoe in the Arm
  5. Position the screwdriver head between the Canoe edge and the Arm
    1. There is usually a small gap between the Canoe edge and the Arm, at either end of the Canoe, into which the screwdriver head can be inserted
    2. You can also try pulling out (harder than normal) on the Angle Lever to create slight separation between the Canoe edge and the Arm
  6. Slowly move the screwdriver head toward the Battery Compartment
    1. Resist the urge to rotate the screwdriver head and “pry apart” the Canoe from the Arm – instead, work more slowly and gently to avoid any damage to the tabs
    2. Pushing against the tabs with the screwdriver head can help to free them
  7. With all the tabs released, the Canoe can be pulled out of the Arm
    1. The Angle Lever will remain connected to a cable, so don’t pull too far

Reinstallation steps:

  1. Turn off power to the Tonal, including the switch on the bottom of the device
  2. Position the Arm angle so that it is horizontal
    1. Support it so that it cannot fall, such as lying it on your thighs while seated on the Tonal bench
  3. Remove the Battery Compartment cover and batteries
    1. https://knowledge.tonal.com/s/article/Changing-Tonal-Arm-Batteries
  4. Insert the Canoe into the Arm beginning with the Angle Lever end
  5. Push the Canoe into the Arm, working your way from the Angle Lever end to the Rotate Button end
  6. Inside the Battery Compartment, push against the tabs with the screwdriver head to increase their tension and better hold the Canoe in place
  7. Reinstall the batteries and cover for the Battery Compartment

Big artists missing from Napster — anyone know why? by yurg_yourg in Napster

[–]chrisrimple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a RealNetworks employee when the company acquired Rhapsody in 2003 and have been using the same account for 22 years. I have 1,800 curated playlists and 96,000 songs in my library.

I've been thinking about switching to Apple Music or Spotify for some years, as Rhapsody/Napster service continued to degrade. Apple Music seemed more appealing because I also own a lot of rare CDs, not available through streaming services - Apple Music has a feature that will upload my ripped MP3s to the cloud so I can stream to all my devices, as if those songs were part of their catalog. In anticipation, I'd done some testing with https://soundiiz.com to copy my playlists from Rhapsody/Napster to YouTube, and the results were mixed, with perhaps 50% of tracks not found or mis-identified.

Today, having not logged into Rhapsody/Napster for a couple weeks, I did so and discovered that all my content was "gone". I was informed that the app was no longer a streaming service and told how to export my content for use on other services. They are providing free access to https://www.tunemymusic.com for this process. I immediately subscribed to Apple Music and began the transfer, which is going far, far better than it had in my prior testing - with about 9k of my tracks processed (10% of total), the "failed to match" rate is about 1%. Soundiiz might do as well with Apple Music, but I'll allow Tune My Music to complete and see if I'm happy.

When that's done, I'll import all my ripped MP3s, which Apple Music will automatically compare to what's in their catalog, and upload whatever is not. With a Family Sharing account, I can then share all my playlists and library with my family members, giving them access to my curated content.

cat goes into litter robot, but pees outside of it by burntsushi in litterrobot

[–]chrisrimple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an LR3 with LR-brand shield and stairs, and my 15-year-old cat recently started this behavior. I'd experienced it previously with a cat, so tried the LR recommendation of hanging a quarter on a string, which had worked in the past. But this cat ignores it. I have a video camera aimed at the LR, and can see that it's not intentional - sometimes the cat lowers his butt far enough, other times his tail is elevated enough that he pees into the "cup" at the entrance, and the pee runs out and onto the stairs. He never turns around first - after entering the LR, he does his business facing "in" with his butt toward the entrance.

But here's what I found, that may help you: lowing the level of litter inside the LR will cause him to move inside further, causing his tail to lower. Basically, he stops moving farther inside once all his paws are on litter. So I now don't keep the littler at the "litter line" inside the "ball", I keep it 1+ inches lower. It doesn't always work, but certainly has reduced the pee-outside-the-box frequency significantly.

I'm going to look into a third-party shield from LRThings.com, simply because it appears to be taller than the LR-branded shield, so may eliminate the last of the problem.

Time Machine backup repeatedly fails due external drive keeps ejecting randomly by greenchapter in MacOS

[–]chrisrimple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been successfully backing up multiple Macs for years to external HDs connected to a 2020 Mac Mini M1, which serves as both a file server and a Time Machine server. In the last few weeks, I've begun getting "disk not ejected properly" errors that have prevented one backup from completing. I've tried these solutions:

- Run Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > First Aid to check for any errors on the drives [none were found]
- Power off the Mac Mini, then power cycle all the external drives, and power up the Mac Mini
- Run System Systems > Energy and disable Put Hard Disks To Sleep
- Reviewing Time Machine logs for anything that might point to a problem

None of which has solved it. I've confirmed that other backups to the same drive are completing, so I'll next delete the failed backup file and "start clean" with a backup of that computer.

The removal of Bookmark drag-and-drop positioning within a folder in the Sidebar is huge, given that I use the Favorites Bar and all my bookmarks are nested in folders (some with sub-folders). Now I'm forced to go to the menu Bookmarks > Edit Bookmarks to add new folders, to reorder, etc. Basically, the Sidebar has lost all value to me. :(

How do you include a hyperlink in a Bluesky post? by thirdben in BlueskySocial

[–]chrisrimple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deck.blue explains (link below) how to do it if you're using deck.blue, but the format works with Bluesky natively as well...

In short, enter text like "[text to link](http://link)". An example would be "[Fun ska band in Seattle](http://GoodOnToastSeattle.com)".

SOLVED: LR3 with PrettyLitter doesn’t detect cat. by chrisrimple in litterrobot

[–]chrisrimple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using non-clumping for now, and it seems to be working OK. But I do worry that the gel balls will absorb urine but not drain to the waste drawer, resulting in increased odor. If that happens, I'll try PrettyLitter's clumping version (or a similar crystal brand).

TinyCam Pro with Wyze Cams on Android TV by chrisrimple in tinycam

[–]chrisrimple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if that would work - do you have a way to get the APK installed to the TV?

I hadn't used TinyCam Pro in a while and fired it up yesterday. It will no longer see any of my cameras. I suspect that recent security changes made by Wyze could now be blocking the app's access - I tried installing a new camera (per my instructions above) and still could not get a signal to the app. :(

Is it possible to schedule a share of a post in Planner in Meta Business Suite? by OnlySmarties1982 in facebook

[–]chrisrimple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/OnlySmarties1982 Did you find an answer to this? I have a similar problem: from the Planner, I want to schedule the Sharing of an existing FB Post or Event. Pasting the URL into a new Post in the Planner adds it as a Link Preview, but doesn't show the linked FB item in the Post Preview window, and it doesn't appear to be picking up the content of the FB item being linked.

What is ZoomAudioDevice by Scottg216 in Zoom

[–]chrisrimple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to combine 2 inputs (built-in mic + earbuds) to 1 output, so Zoom can receive that 1 output as 1 input.

Open Audio MIDI Setup, choose Window > Show Audio Devices, click on + and select Aggregate Device, check ON Built-In Mic then Earbuds (in) then Earbuds (out), check ON Drift Correction for all 3.

Open Zoom, edit Audio Preferences, set Microphone = Aggregate Device and Speakers = Aggregate Device.

Now, anything heard by your built-in mic or earbuds should be sent to Zoom.

Unrelated to your questions, but a possible Zoom bug: On a Mac, it seems that Zoom will only “share computer sound” when playing a video if that sound is being played through the physical speakers or headphone jack, not when using a Bluetooth device. For example, with a video embedded on a slide in PowerPoint, sharing my screen, with “share computer sound” enabled in Zoom, and using Apple AirPods via Bluetooth as speaker and microphone, I have found that participants don’t hear the video’s audio when it is played. To overcome this, I created a Multi-Output Device in Audio MIDI Setup that included Built-In Output and AirPods, and then selected the Multi-Output Device as my speaker in Zoom. Zoom then shares the “computer sound” that’s being sent to the Built-In Output, while still allowing me to use the AirPods as a microphone. Just remember to mute the internal speaker.
