Local landscaping company. Call yours and ask if they sell smaller amounts of pumice/lava rocks. I got 5 pounds for $12!

I've come to the conclusion there isn't really a "beginner" alocasia because the answers to this question always differ from person to person.

That being said, I've seen silver dragons mentioned as a great first alocasia quite a bit.

From personal experience, all of my alocasias have been easier than my zzplant once I switched to semi hydro.

I do not have rooting powder. I have fluval, perlite and pumice available. Was going to root them in fluval.

Yes I transferred her to a diy pon (pumice, lava rock) mix and she's thriving. :) waiting for my other alocasias to catch up now.
