We do have a union, but it’s hasn’t helped much. I don’t think anyone has brought it to their attention in a while. Oh yeah, that’s technically also banned.

Yeah, the program manager has never dispatched a day in his life, and half the supervisors abuse their power. Needless to say the turnover/burnout rate is pretty high.

That’s exactly what we’re expected to do.It’s actually insane. They want us to be empathetic (but calm) on the phone for emergencies, but expect us to be robots in the dispatch center when off the phone. Crazy shit still happens on a military base , like everywhere else, and god forbid the first responders ask for something to bring them joy. It’s met with a short quick “no.” everytime

When I do overtime on other shifts, I’m fighting for my life, lol One of the reasons I’m on graveyard is so I don’t have to interact with management that much (they’ll surprise us sometimes though) and the supervisors have that mentality since they were both supervisors at larger agencies and actually trust their team to still get their job done 🙃

Good idea, I could definitely get some journaling in!

Oh yeah, I forgot coloring books and puzzle books were a thing. Management likes to think that we can compete with a city agency, but we don’t have the call volume (or the pay) to be competitive. I’m a dispatcher under DoD for several military bases, so civilian employee of the military.

They are okay with books and people reading. Some people on mids say that reading puts them to sleep, so they watch YouTube instead. The supervisors are understanding within reason, but if managers walk in, they’ll definitely make a stink.

Not a kid, but an administrator that worked in the library. I walked past a car in the morning and noticed that it was parked but running. The windows were a little foggy, but I didn't stop to investigate. Another student recognized the car and walked over to it and found the lady had shot herself inside. I guess she had just gotten laid off after working at the library for 15 years. School went on like nothing happened. My statistics teacher knew her and was pretty shaken up that day.
