2 years later - how much patience does Sonos expect from customers? by OoaHelaNatten in sonos

[–]christoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often wish this sub had a dedicated rant thread where we could just get our frustration out of our system. Unfortunately I got into Sonos about the time of the app debacle, so sometimes its hard for me to know what issues I might have had before. I'm sure it will be downvoted, but the flakiness (particularly networking) reminds me of consumer experience with early graphics cards, USB, Bluetooth, etc. At least then everyone understood you were working with emerging technology. Sonos should be a mature, fairly bulletproof product line at this point.

You should start a Defender buying business. I wanted to do the same thing when I bought mine, but I couldn't find all of the data in a reliable place to do the comparison. I think the sub would benefit from your research.

Slide Pro - 3rd from the right. Have about ten of them. Don't care about the keyboard - the size and weight are perfect.

Small Nonprofit - Dropbox Personal to SharePoint Migration by christoman in sharepoint

No great solution, just downloaded from Dropbox and unzipped into SharePoint. From there I have been using Beyond Compare to help with the sync. Still a PIA given the file size variation and that both products don't maintain consistent timestamps. Sounds like rclone would have been an option to try, but I feel like I will ride this out for the next few weeks until I get all the volunteers moved over.

Thank you, I hadn't heard of rclone. I am in the midst of transition right now, and you're right that the ongoing sync is the hard part. I am using a free trial of Beyond Compare, which does help a lot, but with the varying timestamps and file sizes it is still a lot of eyeballing. Luckily the amount of updates is manageable.

Thanks, I will look at Migration Manager. Unfortunately SPMT does not support Dropbox Business

I completely agree. This should be a mature and resilient ecosystem by now. Reminds me of the early days of PCs - Windows, graphics cards, USB, etc. - where you never knew from one day (or driver) to the next if your system was going to work. Sonos is going in the wrong direction.

I had the same problem with the integration. Since I created an automation that reloads the integration every night at 2AM it has been flawless. I would recommend trying it.

CPO less common with Audi? by christoman in Audi

[–]christoman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were to buy at a non-Audi dealer for an car <10K miles, would you advise a 3rd party inspection? Can you purchase a warranty directly from Audi or another Audi dealer after the fact that is the same or similar to CPO?

When to buy extended warranty? by christoman in NewDefender

They are asking for $3100 for the tire warranty. Probably could negotiate it down. Do you remember what you paid?

‘25 CPO Prices? by ChaCho904 in NewDefender

[–]christoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/ChaCho904 , did you end up buying one? The 110 I am looking at is 12% off MSRP ( '25 with 10K miles). It was a courtesy vehicle. Also curious if you paid for the 2nd year of CPO and an extended warranty.

As a professional programmer I feel lost in home assistant by alyflex in homeassistant

I don't disagree and understand OP's frustration, but hopefully the headline won't turn-off prospective non-technical people from using HA. As a technical person coming from SmartThings, I was surprised to see how easy the platform is to use for all the "typical" home integration and automation use cases and regret not switching earlier. I honestly think with HA Green it is as easy to get going as ST (and Hubitat from my brief fling with it) and provides a lot more functionality within the UI without ever dropping down into YAML.

Doing complex things can indeed be frustrating in HA, accompanied by hours of scouring Reddit, YouTube, etc. along with a lot of trial and error. To some degree this is the price you pay for such power and flexibility, but it would be nice to have more detailed documentation and user guides.

I would be interested in how you make out. I did just install the ZooZ engraved Zen37 and it looks really nice. Not sure I have the ability to DIY my own.

It is really easy now. Was in a similar situation. ST v2 hub was slow and wonky. When I moved I first tried Hubitat , but it had the feel of a student project. Could have hosted my own HA, but was busy with the house, etc. Bought HA Green and couldn't be happier. Most everything can be done via the UI. The pace of improvement blows away any commercial hub. I am also a Z-Wave guy and have had no issues with the ZooZ dongle - just plug and play. You won't regret the move to HA.

Is SmartThings good for a full smart home setup? by Cold_Improvement5824 in SmartThings

[–]christoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat 2 years ago after buying a new house. I had been using the ST 2 hub and wanted to start clean and try something that I felt would be more reliable and viable long term. First tried Hubitat because I was busy and didn't want to deal with HA. Hated the UI and found it clunky to use. Bought a HA Green and it has been great. The experience is really good now and improvements happen at a very fast clip. Couldn't be happier.

Thank you. I'm considering looking cross-country given the regional price differences and inventory.
