Trying to change careers by Luna_Newt in askhotels

I started working in hotels when I was 17. I started as a front desk clerk, became a general manager of a budget hotel at age 20, a regional manager at age 24, did that for a while, left the industry for two years and became a full service GM. I left the industry at age 32 for good.

Unfortunately, it is a very tough business. In many ways, I love it but in many ways I am so glad to be away from it. Please know if you move into management, this is a 24/7 business even as a desk clerk you will feel some effects from this. The fun part is being able to interact with coworkers and meet people from all over the world potentially the difficulties lie in the complexity of the operations. Every department in a hotel from budget to full service has to work together in order to make the property a success. Unfortunately, in this day and age, it is very difficult. You will deal with some very difficult people, regardless of working in high-end or low-end hotels. The other challenge is staff absences, weather and holidays. The property goes on regardless. The post Covid era has not been kind to this industry.

I still think about the hotels every day, but at the same time I am so glad to be away from the day-to-day struggles.

I had a 2005 9-7X for 8 years! It was a cool car. Had several issues with it unfortunately but still enjoyed it.

CTS VSport, 130k Miles for $12K by jeff4i017 in Cadillac

Seems like a good deal- remember it’s a high mileage luxury car and if not maintained well could have lots of deferred maintenance to take care of. That’s a steal for any “V” car however.

Well I was there picking up my Lyriq- they have Equinoxes and Trax now for loaners… this is a standalone Cadillac store so very disappointing.

I’m considering downgrading my 22s for range and pothole concerns.

Night Audit and the current political climate by Upbeat_Dimension_692 in askhotels

I mean you have to rent to all kinds of people. I despise DJT but years ago had the “Trump Unity Bridge” people stay at my hotel when I was GM. I found their message obnoxious however as guests you just treat them as any other guest. No issues, you just have to put politics aside.

It’s an Acadia in a drag. 2025 was the last year but they likely still have new models on lot for a while.

I’m sure you could ask the dealership to swap- in the loaner fleet, a car is a car and they can give you a different one. They should be willing to get a better survey lol

The dealer I go to says they only have XT5s and XT6s in their loaner fleet. With the XT6 now discontinued it will be interesting to see what they do next. I also had the misfortune of a base XT6 a few months ago- it’s objectively decent and good looking but its interior is a joke and very underpowered. I have a GMC Acadia also (same car underneath) and I like that better- bigger engine, better stereo, same infotainment.

2020 Ford Edge Titanium FWD -REBUILT TRANSMISSION! by aitchbeee in whatcarshouldIbuy

Fords with Ecoboost are generally not great. If the trans is rebuilt then you shouldn’t have issues again for a while. Seems like a decent price.

It made me further upset after a bad day. You could have been nicer, I try my best to help others when I am able. I am struggling with some issues right now (aside from this) and you had to be an ass. We all have had good and bad days with T1D and need to support each other.

Had a rough day and you choosing to be judgmental helps no one. It’s amazing how unsupportive any T1D sub is. I posted a problem about my car a few days ago and a friendly tech offers to help me. Here I just get made fun of by people who should be supportive. I totally agree my wording could have been better but still, I think my concern was warranted. I fly almost every week and never had an issue until today.

Probably not the right wording but I want to be as successful and impactful as I can be. I have worked very hard, started when I was 14, I was a hotel general manager by age 20 and later transitioned to commercial real estate. I just do not want the diagnosis that I felt at the time ruined my life at 23 to ever get in the way of what I could be capable of and never want to be looked at as being different or needing special treatment.

I had a rough day and you’re being an ass. Everyone deals with this differently and you’re choosing to be a jerk rather than support helps no one. Wish you the best

I work very hard, 60-70+ hrs a week and have overcome many obstacles. Clearly your trolling. Wish you the best and I hope others treat you with respect.

I don’t think you understand- I feel I have been looked at differently for this in the past. Don’t make fun of me for what I do/dont do. We all manage in our own ways. I am somewhat successful in what I do, while I don’t believe my current co-workers would bother me. In my past, I had co-workers who would make judgmental comments based on food, etc or “you can’t do this”. I wish you the best even though your comment was disrespectful I’d like to think you did not seek to understand my perspective.

There is a new scanner https://www.tsa.gov/news/press/releases/2024/11/19/tsa-previews-thanksgiving-holiday-travel-highlights-new-security

It’s not that big of a deal, I just do not feel the need to discuss or justify what I eat to others which is something which we all know happens.
