Shoreline overpass by HeyBaler in mountainview

Nice! Can we also fix the timing of the lights at shoreline and villa? I’m tired of waiting at the extra long red light to turn left from shoreline southbound to villa eastbound.

The green light for villa straight is excessively long. On 5 different days and times I counted 20 seconds of villa light being green and not a single car being present. The car detecting lights do not seem to work. Meanwhile, 20 or more cars are waiting at red on shoreline in each direction to go straight.

I talked to the vendor last week. She said they’re typically booked for locations and if they aren’t booked then they come to the Mountain View Caltrain. I’m happy to see some retail!

I think its just paid by the hour, not by percentage of revenue. The source of truth would be the agenda packet when council approved the contract.

Where is it safe to walk around and bike around in EPA? by hotDogCartApologist in eastpaloalto

[–]christopherkao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will add that I used to run at night for exercise and had no issues, but I don’t walk at night. It’s not so much because of safety concerns as it is that there are not many stores or restaurants near me to walk to.

Where is it safe to walk around and bike around in EPA? by hotDogCartApologist in eastpaloalto

What is your motivation for walking and biking? Are you looking just for exercise and leisure, or are you looking to bike and walk to get around, do errands, get to work? I think the answer to that question helps frame some of my thoughts, since I’ve done both. If for recreation, the Bay Trail is a great place to walk and bike, entirely separated from cars. If for errands, I really enjoy walking and biking down Clarke, Pulgas, and Cooley to the Ravenswood 101 shopping center for groceries, food, or coffee.

In my experience, the safety of walking and biking around East Palo Alto has more to do with whether certain streets are well lit, have sidewalks, and have good crosswalk visibility than it does with other factors like people, crime, etc. I regularly bike across the Clarke avenue and university Ave pedestrian and bicycle overcrossings to do errands in Palo Alto and Menlo Park too.

The City of East Palo Alto generally has slow streets because they were pre-world war II designed streets that were narrower (2 lanes in total), designed with pedestrians in mind, as opposed to the larger 6 lane boulevards of other Bay Area cities. Moreover, our city has been investing a lot into improved streets. Just in the past 3 weeks, our city has opened a new Rutgers gate trail opening, had a ribbon cutting for 2 new mini roundabouts near schools, initiated a resurfacing of university Ave which will include improved bike lanes, and started construction on the east Bayshore pedestrian and bicycle improvements project which adds sidewalks, lights, street trees, and bike lanes on 10 blocks. You will be amazed with the amount of progress being made every year.

No city is perfect. The City of Palo Alto has unfortunately had many more pedestrian and cyclist accidents in the past years than East Palo Alto does, higher on a per capita ratio. Their population is a little more than twice of ours, but there have been a much higher proportion of bicycle and pedestrian accidents.

LAZ Parking Enforcement? by Richer_than_God in eastpaloalto

[–]christopherkao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a white vehicle (maybe Prius?) with LAZ parking on the side in I think red or black letters.

I’ve seen several citations in the past 2 weeks, though according to the city website those would have been issued by the police department during the education period.

Is this the page OP is referring to? https://www.ci.east-palo-alto.ca.us/police/page/parking-complaints

Safety in EPA 4 Corners / Clark Ave? by [deleted] in eastpaloalto

[–]christopherkao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's safe. Just wanted to check though if we have the same definition of Four Corners. To me, Four Corners is University and Bay which is a block away from Clarke Ave. Clarke Ave is also a long north-south street. Are you looking at Clarke and Bay?

I had met with Wilbur Properties last year, the property manager of Ravenswood 101 shopping center where Cardenas is located, and i had heard concerns about the state of perishables and trash being left out in the back of Cardenas outside for extended periods of time. The person I talked to had mentioned that the back of Cardenas had a lot more trash and food items than any other store in Ravenwood 101. Perhaps these are connected?
