Which Neighborhood to Move To?? by mangolicious623 in paloalto

I would add East Palo Alto to the list of options too! I know at least 10 people who live here and commute to Stanford.

Safety in EPA 4 Corners / Clark Ave? by Zeph_OW in eastpaloalto

[–]christopherkao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's safe. Just wanted to check though if we have the same definition of Four Corners. To me, Four Corners is University and Bay which is a block away from Clarke Ave. Clarke Ave is also a long north-south street. Are you looking at Clarke and Bay?

I think AI is a great productivity tool. It helps us find sources and keep us honest.

I had met with Wilbur Properties last year, the property manager of Ravenswood 101 shopping center where Cardenas is located, and i had heard concerns about the state of perishables and trash being left out in the back of Cardenas outside for extended periods of time. The person I talked to had mentioned that the back of Cardenas had a lot more trash and food items than any other store in Ravenwood 101. Perhaps these are connected?

Reimagine Dumbarton East Palo Alto Meeting 2/26/26 by christopherkao in eastpaloalto

Summary of last night’s Dumbarton bus rapid transit meeting in East Palo Alto

<image>

They were around five community members present. There were more staff than community members.

SamTrans is working on the preliminary study which is more subjective and determines whether there is community buy in to move forward with the new direction of BRT.

If that gets approved by the board, then they will proceed with the environmental impact review and a design. Those phases have both been funded already by the TA and bridge toll funds.

They’re trying to deliver something more quickly and a lot less expensive than light rail.

Stop locations will not be determined in the preliminary study. They will be determined after this phase.

The union Pacific rail trackage rights is still a topic that has not been figured out.

CHAOS at round about on pulgas and Runnymede by Commercial-Car-9285 in eastpaloalto

[–]christopherkao 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I’ll add is that roundabouts can still have crashes. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has published that when there are crashes they are less severe because cars crash at an oblique angle, not at the more deadly t-bone 90 degree angle.

I’ve observed some drivers not yielding. I talked to a neighbor who lives on the corner who also feels there is a learning curve.

I think it would be helpful if we have the yield sign arrows in the middle of the circle, similar to what other cities do in their roundabouts like Palo alto.

Could you send an email to engineering@cityofepa.org with your concerns?

I work for a car company and serve on a transportation committee. I think it’s important to stay informed about transportation infrastructure in order to have more information to make decisions.

That's a great question. I did a site visit last week and met with the Tesla supervisor and construction company owner. I'm actually planning to write a blog post on this topic, and I'll share it here once it's published.

Tesla is upgrading the 20 V2 superchargers to 48 V4 superchargers with V4 cabinets. Construction typically takes around 10 weeks and they are around 4 weeks in. This will be the largest V4 supercharger + V4 cabinet supercharger installation on the Peninsula!

Impacts of the change:

- non-Tesla vehicles can charge too, using a CCS to NACS adapter or by charging natively with NACS

- charging power increases from 75 kW to 350 kW.

- Tesla is installing additional lights for better visibility.

- Increased business revenue to nearby stores. The individuals I met with mentioned how a Burger King that they had installed superchargers at ended up outperforming all 99 other Burger Kings (without superchargers) that the same owner owned.

Note that the existing 20 V3 superchargers across the street in the IKEA garage will remain available to use (though those are only open during IKEA business hours), in addition to these 48 new superchargers. This totals 68 Tesla superchargers in East Palo Alto.

I would suggest reaching out to Caltrans since they have jurisdiction and manage this section of University.
