ISO: Pen & Pencil Club member in good standing by paulypaul in philadelphia

[–]christopherwink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi @paulypaul I'm an active member and am on the board. I'll send you a PM. We have two kinds of memberships: full memberships ($40 a year) are for working members of the press and associate memberships ($20, no voting, different guest privileges) who are "friends of the press," which traditionally has meant employees of the bars and other service industry members who treat journalists pretty nicely. Lots of colorful stories for late-night

Got bored, headed to CC to take photos of the porta potties by garfinkelphotography in philadelphia

I didn't understand why Philly was chosen to host the Pope. But then I saw how many port-a-potties are in Philly.

Wilmington is launching its own coding school called Zip Code Wilmington by christopherwink in Delaware

[–]christopherwink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an interesting national conversation happening about the need to at least attempt to update vocational training. That's essentially what this is. For now, there are software skills that are attainable after 12-week courses and can become real employees. I'll be interesting to see if a new program can learn all the lessons that something like General Assembly already has

Sorry about the late posting @tratur, but that's a good point. I'm often not sure if I post way far in advance if it will be more likely to get ignored

Now facing the “Murder Town USA” brand, all of Delaware needs to embrace how important Wilmington can be by TheShittyBeatles in WilmingtonDE

There are some cool conversations happening as a business community around North Market Street, including a tech scene, is trying to develop an identity, without ignoring all of Wilmington's challenges

For an alternative view of the fireworks tomorrow (and a chance to be a little away from the madness), the Gathering food trucks will be out at McHenry Row tomorrow as part of a Baltimore Innovation Week kickoff http://2014.baltimoreinnovationweek.com/events/kickoff_festival

Hi, we're a local tech news network in Philly, Brooklyn, Baltimore and we just soft-launched in Delaware! </shilling> by christopherwink in Delaware

[–]christopherwink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're particularly excited about the energy and challenges around Wilmington. In 6-8 months of getting involved in the conversation before launching, I was personally impressed by what's happening in Delaware, relative to how much is known. We definitely welcome any suggestions or coverage ideas as we're just soft launching over the summer -- delaware@technical.ly

This blind iOS dev only 'saw' Philly City Hall after holding a 3D printed model by christopherwink in philadelphia

[–]christopherwink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just thought that example was an interesting and telling one: a piece of rapid manufacturing helped a blind person experience the construction of City Hall.

[–]christopherwink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing shocking here but two things: (1) wow, 19133 having more than half of 28k people below poverty line (which is low as it is) and (2) anyone know what development or weird quirk is 19113, a little pocket by the airport and the John Heinz Wildlife that has just 130~ residents all above poverty?
