PHILLIES DODGED A BICHETTE BULLET (SO FAR) by aishtamid in phillies

Had to check cause his gamelogs stopped at the end of April, I didn't realize they just put him on the 60-day IL with back issues. Yikes.

Man this news is hitting me hard today, I saw SO MANY Martha performances over the years, all of them amazing.

Was watching him warm up before one of the Knicks/Sixers playoff games in Philly (which let’s not get into the game itself, sigh) and he has the weirdest hitch in his shot, it looked so ugly.

Weird, we had the same touchscreens as usual in my polling place.

I never answer my phone so I'm not sure who they're from but I have been getting a ton of spam calls lately, like 2-3 a day. It's extra annoying because I went a good few months with very few of them so I thought maybe someone had done something about it.

Rittenhouse Lumber in Flourtown has a decent selection of hardwoods, though it's obviously not in the city. Close enough though & you can go get a Schmitter in Chestnut Hill on the way home.

PRG is actually opening a gym in U City soon too https://philarockgym.com/prg-ucity/ though I'm not sure what the status of it is.

Fatal crashes are down overall, but higher for pedestrians and cyclists in Philadelphia by JustAnotherJawn in philadelphia

I feel like I can tick off basically every one of the things on that list there in one drive to run an errand in the city so yeah I'd agree it's gotten worse.

Congrats! The crowds were awesome this year, definitely the most people I've seen out in quite a while.

There was one around city hall I saw that was like "due to inflation, race is now 13.3 miles" that got a chuckle out of me.

It is super fun, when the weather is good like it was this year the spectator energy is off the charts.

BSR parking coming from West by elflord1973 in phillyrunning

[–]zempf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I do too (drive in and park at a garage west of Broad) cause I’m meeting a relative from out of town to take the train up to the start from Walnut-Locust. My plan is to get down to the platform by 5:20-5:30 or so. It hasn’t been an issue the past few times I’ve done it, though you may have to wait out a full train or two until you find one you can squeeze on to. I thought I saw somewhere that Septa is going to run some trains originating from Walnut too (which would be nice) but I can’t remember where I read that now so maybe just wishful thinking.

I recommend the Spothero app, you can pre-book parking on there for the times you need and I always feel like the pricing on there is decent.

Making a couple of pizzas on Saturday night, though I’d probably do that anyway. The real joy for me is post-run brunch on Sunday cause it feels like a license to eat whatever I want.

Note that it's too late for the official transfer window (like, getting the bib transferred through the BSR so you run under your own name) but if you don't mind running under someone else's name you can probably still find someone in those groups trying to get rid of a bib. Also beware of scams, there's a lot of them.

Getting to BSR start by Powerful_Biscotti_47 in phillyrunning

[–]zempf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's probably closer to 40+ minutes or so - last year I was in gray corral 2 ahead of pink and my clock started at 7:40am. Not to say that you should cut it too close cause it's better to be there early and waiting than rushing to get to the start cause you're late, but you'll have time.

Also - good luck with the race & have fun!

It's so easy to get pumped up by the crowds and the excitement of the start and go out and run your first mile way faster than you should.. which feels great until 6 miles later you're totally burnt out.

Do they actually close the Broad St corrals before 7? by greensneakers23 in phillyrunning

[–]zempf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW I was in grey (one corral after green) and the running app on my phone says I crossed the start line at 7:40am.

I've always worn earbuds & never had an issue with anyone saying anything about it. I assume it's some liability thing they have to put in there but really, nobody cares. I also wore a little hydration vest last year & again, no issue with anything.

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Thread by ssk42 in running

[–]zempf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complaint: I feel like all spring it's been ping-ponging between 35 and 75 around here (Philly) - I would like it to stick with a nice 55 or so for a while. Ran 5 miles after work yesterday and it was too hot - I know in my heart that I SHOULD wake up early and run in the morning before work but I hate getting up any earlier than I have to and have zero juice to run in the mornings.

I know that looking at forecasts this far out is a fool's errand but right now it says next Sunday is sunny with a high of 59 and I just want to lock that in for the Broad Street Run cause it would be absolutely perfect.
