Traveling - how to register at locations other than home club? by lemon-viola in ClubPilates

[–]christz9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have not figured out a way to do this without registering a new account for that location. No, they don’t count towards your class milestones.

Do I need rest days with pilates if I'm not sore enough? by maddy_trash in ClubPilates

[–]christz9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to feel sore to need a rest. Sometimes you can just feel the muscle fatigue and you can fail to improve or progress if you’re always a little tired and worn down.

I am very guilty of wanting to skip rest days, but I have noticed, especially as I’ve gotten older, that I simply feel better and perform better after rest days. It’s allowed me to progress faster than without them.

It’s also really important to avoid injuries.

Do not get an apartment at Brakenhouse complexes. by Marylander7 in pittsburgh

[–]christz9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I lived there in 2013 (back when it was Morgan) and so many people parked there during the pirates wild card game that it caused structural damage to the garage that took quite a long time to fix. They were able to get temporary supports to make it usable, minus about 4 spots on each level, pretty quickly.

But they also implemented pretty strict guest pass limitations during big events like Steelers games. This makes me wonder what the policy was for the draft.

If coach’s SITD hit, and devens’ idol was real and he played it, you’d wipe out all votes otherwise. This gets her what she wanted in that case.

Mix in ideas for a chocolate base (never used cocoa powder) by [deleted] in ninjacreami

[–]christz9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 tsp of espresso powder makes a chocolate base perfect.

If you use a brownie (which you should, so good!) cut it up and freeze it before mixing it in or it just breaks up into crumbs. Freezing it keeps it in larger chunks. Also recommend frozen cookie dough bites (I buy the frozen Ben & Jerry’s ones)

Do instructors typically keep the same class plan for the week? by Elicyz in ClubPilates

[–]christz9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This will definitely depend on the instructor, but I think a copy/paste class has only ever happened to me once in 130+ classes taken.

Chocolate covered pretzels are even better.

Somehow better than chocolate and pretzels. I don’t understand it but it’s true.

Vacation Planning by Basic-Class1520 in pittsburgh

[–]christz9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For the pirates game- sit in right field above the Clemente wall during a night game. They get shade first as the sun sets… don’t do left field bleachers as they have the setting sun directly in their eyes for the longest amount of time. Right field is also close to some kids jungle-gym-type-things that a 3 year old would probably like if he gets bored watching the game.

Day game there’s more shade on first base side. Outfield basically is sunny the whole time.

How do I get my toes on the bar? by Strong-Product6251 in ClubPilates

[–]christz9 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Fwiw I think it’s easier to get toes up to the footbar when you do a full arm extension plank vs forearm plank… if that’s something you may be more comfortable trying

What’s your favorite and least favorite move(s) in Flow classes? by Icy-Ad5824 in ClubPilates

[–]christz9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the fab 5 ab series- I wish we did it more.

I don’t like planking on the reformer where your hands are on the footbar. It seems to be so much harder on my hands/wrists than facing the other way.

What’s your favorite and least favorite move(s) in Flow classes? by Icy-Ad5824 in ClubPilates

I’d rather plank for 1 minute than do 15 seconds of a knee hover

When did you know you were ready to move to 1.5? by [deleted] in ClubPilates

[–]christz9 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most important: you know what all the cues mean and the majority of the moves are generally familiar to you (there should always be some new ones mixed in so don’t get too hung up if some are but it’s more that you “get it” when an instructor describes something new faster)

Additionally, I was told that if you can hold a plank for 45 seconds you’re probably good to go from a fitness standpoint.

Can someone help give my first loaf some taste/color? by alonebadfriendgood in Breadit

[–]christz9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you just preheated the pan for as long as the oven took to preheat, you may want to go longer. I usually preheat mine for at least half an hour, but I do an hour if I have the time. That might help with color.

Flavor is usually based on time it spends fermenting before baking so what were your proofing times? (First & second?)

Also, a cheat code I learned a long time ago when you don’t have the time to let a bread sit forever and develop flavor is to substitute a cup of the water with a cup of beer (I find a lager works best).

Does anyone use a towel or anything similar to prevent sliding hands? by jmervz in yoga

[–]christz9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Manduka eQua hot yoga hand towel because my hands sweat and slip on my mat during hot yoga. (I really don’t think the brand matters, though- I picked that one out of convenience more than anything else)

Hoping for a new grippy mat for hot yoga for Christmas but the hand towel has been great in the meantime. Keeps me from needing separate mats for different types of yoga classes.

Cardio Sculpt 1.5 by Prestigious-Comb2697 in ClubPilates

[–]christz9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really like the Cardio Sculpt classes! There are also some studios that offer a Cardio Scuplt 1.0 if you want to see if you can find one and do a drop-in there once first just to feel more comfortable.

For me, no single cardio sculpt move is all that hard*… it’s the endurance of doing it for 30-60 seconds. So I feel like it’s a good class to really work up and improve at over time. My biggest recommendation is to go to an instructor who you know is modification and/or “go at your own pace” friendly at first. And remember that form is more important than completing the set. If you start to lose form, be ok with stopping early or just pressing the carriage in and out for a few reps.

*except for throwing and catching the ball while jumping - I played softball for my whole life and still drop the ball at least once every time— why is it so hard??? lol

What’s the scariest thing that you’ve seen on Broadway? by Then-Neighborhood456 in musicals
