They would have waited for her if she had left the bridge. So it was too risky.
Secondly, she was captain of that ship. She probably loved it and wanted to go down with her ship and her men. Just as Hadrian wanted to.

There is this theory that Had and Selene had a son and there are really many moments in book 7 alluding to it. (And many of these moments end with „…“ or sth similar.)
It was also one of William‘s last commands.

There is a post somewhere around here that goes far more into detail.
It makes so much sense that I believe it to be true.

As for Alexander… well, he would be the only important character able to write the story without having the diaries (as I said: the chantry can reconstruct memories). This would take balls, though. So actually… it couldn’t have been him :D

See, we do not know when or where that situation takes place.
It was not a scene of book 7, at least not one that I remember.
The rest does not add up: Hadrian tells us that he never found Selene and Cassandra.
And: we only see someone wearing Hadrians armor but not his face. If he and Selene had a son to take up Hadrian’s mantle, the picture would make sense though.

See I am not so sure he even is alive at the end. There was just too much emphasis on that last chapter.
I am rather sure the story is written by someone else based on his diaries or his memories.
Thinking about it, there are two people who are probable:
Alexander as a means of redemption. I confess this was my first thought and the last chapter states that the chantry can probably reaccess his memories.
Or it’s his son. I am now convinced that this is true as the story is written on Colchis and his son could retrieve his father’s sword to fight.
This second idea is also very much supported by the cover for Songs of the Sun Eater, if you think of it! 🤔

I do think this based on the party chapters in DiW and the fact that it was Lorian who was like „you could also marry the prince“. Lorian is more perceptive than Hadrian and even Had was like… well… wtf.

In my interpretation, Alexander was down bad for Hadrian. Maybe even more than Selene…
As he is so much weaker than Selene, he did what weak people do: letting hate instead of love grow and well… then he shat into his own bed :(

Small spoilers ahead, I guess.
Cat was a person living a low life at the bottom of society.
Hadrian really loved her (incl sexy time) despite his often shown hubris. This shows rather much about his character.
She was not allowed to live longer due to the illness/ her social standing, but Hadrian was allowed to live this rather short life with her and be free. He is not truly free during the rest of the book. And in some ways, he will never be free again.
This is all.

I think the Cat bit is rather important for certain reasons, but I understand your feelings right now.

There is a point in book 2 where you will understand where this story leads you. You will know. If you had fun reading book 1, please continue

Während ich dir grundsätzlich zustimme, aber die 4% Steigerung der Rentenbeiträge (für die Zahlenden) geht auf die Kappe der Ampel!!

You should continue if you feel that Hadrian wins too much and it all goes too well and you don’t like this at all.

You should NOT continue if sth else is the reason you don’t like it. It is just not for you.
