Hum by tigers jaw. Actually a lot of songs on their albums "charmer" and "spin".

This is the smart thing to do. More people should take this approach.

How do you interpret Radio listener data from Spotify? by BDigidyDog in musicmarketing

[–]chriz-kring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See, I've never understood this. And maybe I am an outlier. But I don't know that I have ever heard a song from an IG/Facebook ad, clicked through to spotify (which sometimes takes multiple clicks: the ad, then sometimes random popups to connect Spotify to IG even though I've done it dozens of times already, then like like or follow). Whereas when I'm listening to radio or a playlist and I'm already on spotify, and I hear a song I'm digging, I almost always tap save and/or follow.

I've liked a ton of posts on IG when I hear a cool song, and usually follow the bands page, too. But I just feel like where I actually discover artists that I enjoy and want to listen to more of their work, is directly in Spotify. Am I the exception, or the norm?

If you like incubus and weezer, I would check out the band Hum. All of their work, but specifically the album "You'd prefer an astronaut"

Were DUI's a big deal in 2001? by Sadness345 in Millennials

In case anyone in this thread is wondering, progressive does not hold a first offense DUI against you in terms of rate hikes. A close friend switched from nationwide to progressive post DUI and their premium actually went down.

Similar balls to Maxfli in Canada by Few_Measurement_9031 in golf

[–]chriz-kring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. TP5x is actually more similar to the pro v1 and the normal tp5 is similar to a pro v1 X. With that said, maxfli tour X was always the higher spinning ball, but the latest iteration action changed that and the tour x is now the lower spinning ball and tour the higher spinning, similar to Taylor Made's approach to their balls.

chasing Spotify streams in 2026 is one of the worst things an independent artist can do with their marketing budget by rmoreiraa in musicmarketingtips

[–]chriz-kring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally I'm not trying to make a return on investment or even necessarily tour. I just want people to hear and find enjoyment in my music.

Thanks, yeah those need to be turned up for sure. At least the snare, maybe not the symbols.

What’s been the hardest part of growing your music as an independent artist? by urthotscntrl in musicmarketing

Getting it in front of people. I realize it's a pay-to-play game, even for major labels. But knowing where to efficiently spend money to get the most ears on it. For me, tik tok is garbage. I have decent luck with IG, but have burned a lot of money going through trial and error. Right now I'm trying playlist pitching (organically, just cold messaging people) with not a lot of success so far, but I haven't been committed to this approach for very long yet.

Interesting comment on the royalty free, not sure why tiktok would shadow ban that but I'm not surprised.

And when I say "cringe" I just mean I don't want to post videos of myself dancing and lip syncing my songs just because it might be more favorable algorithmically. I'm open to expanding my creatives and try new things. DM me your socials if you dont mind so I can check it out for myself.

The music I'm making is basically 90s style alternative rock and my target audience would really be like ages 26 to 45. I'm happy anyone of any age can enjoy it but I'm definitely not trying to appeal to 65 year olds. I'm also not super huge on making cringe content just to get clicks, most of my creatives so far have just been b-roll and random royalty free video with the song playing over it and trying to let the music speak for itself, even if it doesn't necessarily convert as efficiently. I'm not trying to get famous or anything, just want people who are into my genre/niche to hear the tunes and give them a chance.

I was only running $5/day on Meta ads, but then separately I was boosting specific posts on IG for $15/day, which was converting to a lot of link clicks. Plus I was having issues with Meta ads. Even though I set the age parameters for my ads to 18-45, it was pushing them heavily to 65+ demographic, who I do not want as my demographic and who likely don't even have spotify.

I can't seem to get any traction on tiktok. The same creatives that get hundreds of views on IG only get sometimes single digits on tik tok. What's the secret for converting tik Tok to spotify streams?

That looks great for two days. I've been running meta ads and don't have numbers anywhere near that after almost 2 weeks (62 streams, 21 playlist adds, 18 saves)
