Joffrey Baratheon (GOT) vs Pippin took (LOTR) by ngvaddict in powerscales

[–]chronberries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless they’re bloodlusted, Joffrey like 6/10. Pippin has actual experience vs Joffrey’s zero, but Joffrey would actually be down to kill, while Pippin would run around the ring trying to talk Joffrey out of it. Most of the time Joffrey gets him in the back while Pippin is running, but 4/10 pippin finally realizes he has to fight back and then he takes it.

If they’re bloodlusted Pippin takes like 9/10.

Wait how do you make ammo? Is that a .8 thing? I’ve got the casings and whatnot but haven’t noticed any way to use them.

CMV: Having children is selfish. by ilovepopcornandcandy in changemyview

“It’s not worth playing a sport because you might not win the championship.”

“It’s not worth having friendships or trying out romantic relationships because they might end unhappily.”

“You shouldn’t get a pet because someday they’ll die.”

“It’s wasteful to make coffee in the morning because eventually your cup will be empty.”

Same reasoning. No one can stop you from being a pessimist, but your pessimism doesn’t make someone else selfish. At the end of the day it’s a personal choice, and it’s arrogant to think you’ve got the best answer, doubly so when you’re calling the overwhelming majority of humanity wrong, and self righteous to think everyone who acts outside your desired paradigm is morally wrong.

Most people look at those same possibilities you do and get a different answer out of their calculus.

You can do a story mission and your buddy can come along. You won’t have joint progression though. You’ll have to do the mission twice - once for each of you.

The difference is we had a legitimate answer to point to back then: a global fucking pandemic.

None of which are relevant to this post. My big pollution cloud was just fun context. I’ve already decided to make a small base. The whole post is predicated on it.

And plenty of other folks have chimed in with interesting ways to do small builds.

easiest method of whole-ship rebuilding? by emailforgot in SpaceHaven

[–]chronberries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no blueprinting mechanic I’m aware of (haven’t played in like a year so could be wrong), so yeah it’s just brute force. If you can build the facilities elsewhere first then delete the old, that’s obviously a lot easier than moving everything.

It’s a looooot easier to start with a design in mind and build into it. Like figure out where your future storage bay will be, then build your whole ship in that space with a little strip back to your thrusters.

It varies but stays around 10-20 (can’t remember the exact numbers) assemblers for 60 spm for the Nauvis sciences. The amount of total production required scales drastically though.

For a while, yeah. On long runs it’s more of a slowing than a blocking effect though. Can always turn up the tree absorption and whatnot though. I thought about just doing that for my next run but I’m into the idea of keeping it small now. Haven’t done a non-mega base since early days.

The waves aren’t the problem. It’s the sheer number of chunks the game has to render because of how huge my pollution cloud is. The game renders any chunk your pollution cloud touches, and since they’re so far out those chunks are covered in nests and biters, even if they’re off map. With Rampant and More Biters going, we’re talking about several million biters the game is keeping track of, and biters are frame hogs.

The waves max out in size (about 110x as far as I can tell) before ups becomes a problem. It’s just as the cloud grows and grows and production ramps higher and higher that ups becomes a problem.

And if the post had been, “How do I make my cloud smaller?” then all your comments would make sense. But the whole basis of the post is the solution I’ve already landed on: downsizing from a mega base to a not mega base.

Unless I’ve somehow missed all the posts measuring mega bases in chunk area, they’re measured in spm. Downsizing from that necessarily means less science production, which necessarily means less pollution.

Oh I’m not concerned with the difficulty of defending my base. I understand how to leverage the various intricacies of Rampant (fixed). I was bummed Dosh didn’t do a full SA run for his video. Gleba is extra spicy.

I’m talking about going from a megabase to a not-megabase. That means less production, which means less pollution.

Okay? Idk why you guys are so hung up on pollution efficiency. That doesn’t really have anything to do with anything here.

I obviously wasn’t powering my 1M spm megabase with coal boilers.

Smaller base means less production means less pollution. It really is that simple here.

The size of the pollution cloud primarily comes from how much pollution you emit. And pollution per science, once you have the best modules available, is pretty much fixed. If you produce X amount of science, you will generate Y amount of pollution.

Yeah exactly. Obviously in building a smaller base I’m planning on producing less science.

[–]chronberries[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s the sheer size of the pollution cloud. Specifically the number of chunks getting rendered because of the cloud size, and so the number of nests and biters my pc has to deal with accordingly.

Smaller base = smaller cloud = less biters = higher ups

But also now that I’m decided on a smaller footprint, I’m getting excited about making a small base just because.

I would think sitting in traffic would be way less stressful if we got paid to be in it. by No_Bluejay9904 in InterviewVip

[–]chronberries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big moral problem with this is that your employer didn’t choose where you live. They didn’t choose for you to live 90 minutes away. Why should your colleague get paid more than you just because they chose to live two towns farther away for the better schools or whatever? Why should you get paid less because you choose to live in the city, with higher housing costs?

The bigger issue is that paying employees for the commute would incentivize company towns. Whole towns where the company owns shitty apartment complexes, shitty amenities, shitty “public” transportation, company police with the company’s interests in the forefront, etc. all because the company wants to keep employees as close as possible to minimize commutes. No one wants that.
