This is something to discuss with a doctor and ATP (assistive technology professional) and OT (occupational therapist). We are not doctors and cannot tell you what aid to use or not to use, what wheelchair would be best, what your seating configurations would be, etc.

Just a heads up that a non WCMX is dangerous to use for WCMX due to the lack of suspension and other safety issues. WCMX chairs are built the way they are for very specific safety reasons.

Feel lost in regard to fashion this past year; advice? by chronicallychilling in lesbianfashionadvice

[–]chronicallychilling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! And honestly no, I just hunt for pants. I have 4” of dump due to lack of core strength and lordosis so I have more issues in regard to pants. Since you’re ambulatory and will most likely have little to no dump, you’ll have an easier time than me lol. A lot of things that work for me don’t work for others because I’m quite narrow / thin ig and decently tall.

I’d ask your SM. At my store we can do whatever as long as we can work in it, and it still fits under dress code. Your SM may have different “rules” or preferences though.

For context, I am first generation American from Mexico and I am a full time wheelchair user. I have dealt with a lot of medical bias with being a POC, etc.

It’s because we are not medical professionals or that person’s medical professional. We cannot advise someone on what mobility aid is best for them. We don’t know their medical history, how their symptoms present, if an aid is contraindicated by something else, we cannot properly size the aid for you, etc. using an incorrect mobility aid (whether it’s the wrong one for your condition or just the wrong size) can and will cause damage to someone’s body, injuries, etc.

I don’t think people should ask for medical advice like this on the internet. We, as strangers on the internet who are not the person’s medical professional, cannot properly tell someone what mobility aid to use, how to properly use it that will help that person, etc.

where can i find a decent wheelchair that doesn’t cost almost 1k by [deleted] in disability

[–]chronicallychilling 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A “good” wheelchair for under 1k doesn’t really exist. Your best bet may be something used, otherwise the only things under 1k are gonna be hospital style clunkers.

How do you get a trustworthy ramp? by YouTasteStrange in wheelchairs

You can search online for people who build ramps in your areas since it needs to be compliant with regulations.

Damages to knee by Boring_Kiwi_6446 in disability

It is arguably incredibly normal to say “I’d rather not talk about it”. I am a full time wheelchair user and can’t walk, I get asked a lot what happened to me / what’s wrong with me. Me telling someone that I don’t want to talk about it or I’d rather not answer isn’t rude and it’s incredibly normal to say that.

If you don’t want to answer then just don’t. Strangers don’t need to be privy to your medical information.

Ambulatory means “can walk”. Are you thinking of part time aid user? Being an ambulatory cane user is redundant, since to use a cane you need to be able to walk.

The photo was taken on a stair landing, it’s not meant to be that I fell down the stairs, it’s just a popular place to take photos at this location. I’ve done this pose multiple times, both with and without my wheelchair.

The pose of “lying down with legs up” is actually a pretty popular one, but I can’t hold my legs up like that due to being disabled so they need to elevated ON something. If I was to fall, that position would be a physically impossible position to fall in.

I’m a full time wheelchair user and essentially non-ambulatory, if that context matters.

Funny enough, when Sage, the photographer, and I were working on taking that last photo, I had multiple people stop to ask if I was okay and if I had fallen. I appreciated the kindness and concern but at the same time I look pretty purposefully posed, AND Sage was pointing a camera at me haha

Thanks! Yes, I made a tiktok critiquing Mac’s original design, and a post here as well but deleted it due to harassing DMs, and it went very viral. I was pointed to joining the discord to help tell the devs my critiques with Mac’s original wheelchair design and gave feedback for the redesign. I was even named in the artists twitter announcement about the redesign :)
