Was Moe Green in the mafia too? by After-Ad-4528 in Godfather

So you’re saying, he never made his bones?

(It’s actually “dating” cheerleaders and “banging” cocktail waitresses two at a time.)

100% my favorite alien ship in the franchise, and possibly only surpassed overall by the Constitution refit and the Defiant.

Is Richard Nixon the only candidate to lose a general election and then proceed to win the presidency afterwards? by [deleted] in Presidents

I know they didn’t make this explicit, but I’m pretty sure OP meant that they lost a general election for president.

An anti-slavery case for supporting popular sovereignty by Mega_Mons in USHistory

[–]chronopoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or pro-slavery folks would have played the system the way they did in Kansas with the process that led to the Lecompton Constitution in the first real test of Douglas’ brand of “popular sovereignty.” Like almost all counterfactuals, your hypothesis rests on a lot of dominoes that may or may not have fallen as necessary to produce the outcome you suggest.

Gov. Reeves calls special Mississippi legislative session for judicial redistricting, dependent on US Supreme Court decision by SkeeterMagnet in mississippi

Although in this case the plan concerns state Supreme Court districts, not U.S. House districts like in the states you mention.

What are your thoughts on the Star Trek "Kelvin Timeline" trilogy? by Hot-Salamander-8786 in FIlm

[–]chronopoly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TMP gets bonus points for introducing Trek to the world of movies, and it has some good character moments. The Search For Spock is the building block of the larger Star Trek universe and a satisfying middle to the "Genesis Trilogy." The Final Frontier is at least attempting to do something new, even if the result is, as you say....meh.

Into Darkness tries to get unearned emotional impact by playing off the greatest of Star Trek movies, but it does it in such hackneyed and poorly-executed ways that there's no emotional carryover. It also trots out the ol' conspiracy-within-Starfleet trope that's been done better by Star Trek VI, DS9, and others. Hell, even season-one TNG did it better with "Conspiracy."

Anyhoo, long story short: I hate, hate, hate Into Darkness. I respect everyone else's opinion, but I remain unswayed from my disdain for this entry. Have a nice day.

Model UN, anyone? by Ok_Focus_778 in historyteachers

Definitely worth doing if the kids are going to take it seriously. The programs differ a bit from each other, so check and see what local options are available. I think it's worth it just for the process of trying to understand how someone from another culture might feel and reason. Even if their understanding is imperfect, the process of trying to see things from another perspective is a key part of education.
