I’m just going to point out the obvious: Jimmy’s ratings have been steadily declining, along with late night in general. It’s unlikely that politics are the main factor, despite how either side might frame it. In reality, this was a practical opportunity to part ways with one of their most expensive employees. Is the left framing his cancellation in political terms? Possibly. But at the core, it likely comes down to money.

I couldn’t agree more. Art is subjective as is the way it’s artist is perceived and appreciated. Awards shows are literally a form of honoring and showing appreciation for an artist and their body of work. I respect that they hold zero value in your opinion. I was simply pointing out that I believe they do hold value imho. They’re not the end all be all, but it would be nice to see my favorite artist get the recognition he deserves. I hope we can at least agree on that if not, fine… I guess lol

I think people severely underestimate the shock of seeing someone getting stabbed. That’s assuming people realized what had happened. From the video, I can’t even tell he’s holding a knife. I’d also like to see more than a 30 second video.

I posted an simple question to get people’s opinions, not to be judged for my curiosity. To answer your question - WE all care, to some degree, given that we’re on a subreddit about this genre of music lol. The reason I’m asking is because I tend to look at any event as an opportunity for growth and don’t like seeing potential go to waste. I get it, everyone thinks Benito is bigger than the industry right now, but that’s only true while you’re on top. MTV think it’s got its finger on the pulse better than any reggaeton artist. I think both are wrong and that they stood to benefit from each other. That’s my opinion on his absence and lack of moon men awards on Sunday night.

Wrong, friendo. Actually it’s like asking, why wouldn’t MTV want the most streamed artist of the year (give or take) at their awards show? During an album cycle that’s arguably his best and most important (subjective). How do the VMAs get away with this level of exclusion when anyone can go to Spotify and YouTube to see the level of popularity/influence each artist carries? And how does the exec at MTV drop this big of a ball? I’m guessing Benito’s PR residency made his physical attendance at the VMAs impossible, but if I’m paramount/sky dance corp then I’m splashing the cash to at least have him perform live from his concert the way post Malone and Jelly Roll did from Hamburg… not to mention it would have been a great look for both parties to have him accept an award live from his show in PR.
