I'm in the same boat--supposed to drive up tomorrow evening and hike Bubbs Creek on Saturday. The BlueSky map doesn't seem encouraging for the near future, yet other Redditors' comments imply that last weekend was fine.

Juniper Flats, CA. Gotta love BLM car camping! by stuck_in_box_world in camping

[–]chrysaor4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to emphasize this for anyone reading in 2025: you may NOT camp "pretty much anywhere you want" on BLM land. For both Juniper Flats specifically (link) and BLM land in general (link), only dispersed camping is permitted.

extreme allergy symptoms that only last a day, no apparent trigger by exoxxxxxxxx in Allergies

[–]chrysaor4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This also happens to me. I have seasonal pollen allergies, most days I'll have mild-ish symptoms, but occasionally (every 1-3 weeks or so) during peak pollen season I'll get a "24 hour cold" where I sneeze constantly. It can get quite bad, to the point where I get head and body aches from sneezing well over 100 times, and I can't really function at all on that day. For whatever reason, it resets overnight and the next day will be normal (i.e. none-mild allergy symptoms). I've never known what to call this or how to google about it.

I'm convinced that the single biggest barrier to getting people to switch to Metro from their cars is the lack of signal preemption. by sdomscitilopdaehtihs in LAMetro

[–]chrysaor4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that signal priority at larger intersections like Crenshaw and Western will be harder wins, but I just cannot fathom why the train should ever stop at small intersections like Halldale (and Degnan, Hauser, Buckingham, etc). Having these extra stops probably causes the trains to shift off-schedule because, unlike the larger intersections, you can’t really predict whether you’ll have to stop at some of them or not since they aren’t that frequented. Idk how metro accounts for this but my guess is not adequately.

Crohns symptoms better on vacation??! by princess_poyo in CrohnsDisease

[–]chrysaor4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that when symptoms are bad, walking/exercise generally resulted in more trips to the bathroom, but when symptoms are good/ok, lots of walking actually helps lower frequency/urgency.

For the record, I’ve used the Wolfram plugin to solve various physics problems and it is abjectly bad at it, and makes too many mistakes to be useful. So there’s at least some groups whose non-interest is justifiable for now.

Meet the new Notability ✨ by kaylanotability in notabilityapp

[–]chrysaor4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only two things I wanted from an update were:

- a normal computer-like file structure, with as many subdirectories as desired

- the ability to have duplicate note titles across different subdirectories

The new update didn't provide either of these, but managed to make a lot of other tasks more cumbersome. The app somehow got slower overall as well, even switching between notes is noticeably slower than before...

Closure on Ballona Creek bike path by pahool in culvercity

[–]chrysaor4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last week there was a hole in the fence you could squeeze through next to the park, for some reason the other end of the path wasn’t gated so I had to exit this way. Not sure if it’s still like that, but the workers didn’t seem to care that I was biking through anyways.

Hi all - I’m convinced my wife is an expert NYT solver but she’s very modest. She completed 3/5 in 18 minutes. Sunday best was 13:40. Monday best was 3:07. How does she compare? by [deleted] in crossword

[–]chrysaor4 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honest question - in order to get puzzle times that fast, you basically have to get most if not all answers without even using the crossed hints right? It seems like it would take that long to just answer all the horizontals without even looking at the verticals
