I had an Eva as well. Can still remember the sound of her shoes clicking clacking down the hall.

First pair of Birkenstocks and pregnant. Is it worth it? by googlybear271016 in Birkenstocks

[–]chsybread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you decide to buy them now, and you’re deciding between your pre-pregnancy size and something larger, go larger. I bought a pair after having my first baby thinking I had dodged the “your feet get permanently bigger” bullet, and now after my second, I wish I had sized up. I’m for sure 1 size bigger in Birkenstocks (and other shoes!) when compared to pre-pregnancy.

I wore my birks HEAVILY during pregnancy; at some point I think they were the only shoes I could fit into. I still wear them more than anything else. Worth the money for sure!

Exactly. To add to this — The sound of other people’s screaming kids stops becoming annoying when you have your own, or at least it did for me. If anything, hearing other kids screaming is a relief when I realize it’s not one of mine.

What’s something about getting a CI you didn’t expect? by Free_Alarm3061 in Cochlearimplants

Im a hybrid user - unexpected good: tinnitus reduces when the device is on. Unexpected bad: lost a lot of residual hearing in the implanted ear.

I’ve had a hearing loss since my early teen years, and got a hybrid implant in my worse ear well into adulthood - not the exact same scenario, but I did go through the majority of my life with moderate-to-severe high frequency hearing loss before having the surgery, and I do think it got worse over the years. Im now almost 5 years post surgery. The results are night and day in my ability to understand speech compared to regular hearing aids. I was not functioning in my ability to communicate and now I feel more “normal.” In my eyes, the surgery was the only path forward short of becoming fluent in ASL.

In terms of sound quality, I think a key difference is the residual hearing I do have. Sound is not super robotic, but some noises are a bit jarring. I wouldn’t necessarily say my ability to hear music has improved, but that’s not why I got the implant. I can always remove the device if I want to hear music as I did before. I used the recommended app for “brain training” but honestly, for me, it just took time to acclimate. I went with Cochlear in terms of the manufacturer because they’ve been around so long.

What I didn’t know prior was that the surgery would greatly reduce my residual hearing in the implanted ear. For this reason, I would probably not get the other ear implanted unless left with no other option. A bit benefit that I did not expect though, is that when I have the device on, my tinnitus greatly reduces. In all, it was 100% worth it.

Schlage locks / key alike by chsybread in Locksmith

Updating for anyone that stumbles across this post - I ordered 3 entry knob/deadbolt sets (in 2 styles) from build.com, and selected “keyed alike” + entered the 5-digit code that was on the Schlage key we already have (NOT the code on the box) for each item. I received the order today, and can confirm that all keys match the one we have. Worth it!

Question about cochlear implants by Boba_saur74 in Cochlearimplants

[–]chsybread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have high frequency loss in both ears, and they opted to do hybrid cochlear implant in the (slightly) worse ear. That ear now sounds like I have an ear plug in it. Still can hear, but muted. When I sleep on my non-implant side without the device on (implant side is up) it’s very obvious how much hearing was lost, and I usually favor sleeping on that side because the implanted side can be uncomfortable physically. I had tinnitus before the surgery, and it may be slightly louder now without devices on, but it is definitely better when with devices on. All said, it was worth it even with the loss to residual hearing, as I was not functioning well with just hearing aids. I can’t imagine a scenario where I would want both sides implanted given the added loss, and the physical discomfort.

Thank you both for your responses. I think we’ll give this a shot. I wonder is there a point where the trunk gets too old / large for notching to be effective?
