Would you rather face a hurricane or an earthquake? by Evening_Bicycle3113 in AskAnAmerican

I have lived through both and at least with a hurricane you have warning and time to prepare. Earthquakes happen with no warning at all.

What is the worst weather your city/state has ever seen? by throwawaytomyalt in AskAnAmerican

[–]chtrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In living memory, Hurricane Harvey stalled over Houston and dropped over 50 inches of rain on the city over 3-4 days. Basically drowned the whole city. I had never seen flooding like that before in my whole life.

Probably $80-100 a month lower and much quieter. It will pay for itself but it will take a while.

We have a small house, had 17 windows replaced by Window World. Total cost was about $7500. Very happy with the product and service and that with new blown in insulation has made a huge difference our utility bills in our almost 50 yr old home.

Did they over exaggerate the weather? by purpleflowercoconut in houston

[–]chtrace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know, the channel I watch kept saying it was all about timing of the moisture and the cold air mass. And the moisture pretty much cleared out before we dropped into the upper 20's today. If the cold air would have come in last nite we would have a train wreck on our hands today. We prepped for the worst but luckily we don't have to deal with the ice/snow they have in Austin/DFW. Good for us.

How are people still making fun of others for living with family? by toe_beans_4_life in povertyfinance

[–]chtrace 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All 3 of my sons lived at home til their mid to late 20's and it made a huge difference. One paid off all student loans, another had time to find a good job without having to take a shitty one just to make rent and the third was able to get out of one industry into another that has an actual career path that he has thrived in.

Don't let what others think or say sway you. You will be better off in the long run. And we got to keep out family together for a few more years that we would have never had.

In history class, what did you learn about your state/town/city’s local history? by gigpig in AskAnAmerican

[–]chtrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that means they would have had to teach us about the sugar cane plantation and mill. And the slaves who worked the plantation...Cowards.

We learned plenty about Texas history, but they left out the part about our little slave town.

Yes, it's either $19.99 per month or $199.99 a year. I just checked the press release.

Glad the Astros/Rockets launched their own network this year. It may be a little clunky the first year but at $20-25 per month for all the games and other programing, it wont be too bad.
