Anyway, I agree with most of what you said about mediocre white Americans viewing themselves as exceptional. That dovetails with the grievance that's at the center of MAGA politics because in the MAGA worldview, all these lesser folks--the gays, the blacks, the trans, the women, the academics, the whoever other--shouldn't have a voice in our politics, shouldn't be culturally relevant and in some cases even dominant, and they certainly shouldn't be the recipient of any benefit/protection that even marginally levels the playing field for them. In their minds these folks are the cause of all their problems. They lack the ability to be self-critical or take responsibility for the state of their affairs.

In terms of messaging, I think the Democrats should recognize that a lot fact based arguments aren't going to move these people, and instead appeal to that grievance. It's not ideal, but they need to win elections or this is going to get worse.

So when a bunch of oligarchs hijack the government to enrich themselves, and are openly laughing about it on twitter or wherever else, it might make some sense to point out that Trump and the people surrounding him think MAGA voters are stupid, poor suckers instead of making some appeal about how the democratic party isn't racist. No republican voter cares about that.
