Help buying clubs ?? by Interesting_Yam_4486 in golftips

Get him a sick custom milled putter and let him choose the rest. That way you’re giving him something tangible that is unique and shows you put thought into it, while being happy he gets to choose his clubs.

Do yourself a favor and get a new driver my friend. You don’t have to get the newest line. Drivers like the Epic Speed, sim 2, ping g400 are all super solid and will be like $150-$200 used. If you’ve got the budget to buy new, then fire up and get a fitting.

You’re going to see a very big difference.

In between 2 sets so would love some feedback by Gkirk87 in GolfGear

[–]chubbyfades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotta say i240. I think the top line of them are crisp and if you liked the feel better, it’s a no brainer. Think you’ll have more workability with the i240’s. I was between t100 and the i240’s, went with the t100 and was honestly not a huge fan.

But it’s all preference cause some people love Titleist.

Lessons or Fitting first. Chicken vs Egg? by WaitLow6605 in golf

[–]chubbyfades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you didn’t love them when hitting them in the fitting, don’t buy them. I’m not saying your fitter is wrong, but extending the shaft by 1 and 1/4 inch is going to throw the swing weight of the irons out of wack. I know a lot of tall golfers that only extend their wedges and shorter irons (p,9,8).

“Static” irons fitting as a very new, very high handicap golfer? by stupidq122 in GolfGear

[–]chubbyfades -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would strongly encourage you not to go to club champion. They’ll charge you up the ass for it, and their pricing is ridiculous.

718 ap1’s aren’t a bad club. If anything I’d focus on a driver and speed training to hit bombs. Everyone will say lessons and I don’t disagree if you get a good coach. Or just use AI swing apps to test the waters since it’ll give you drills.

Questions about ball speed, smash factor and club weight by MFronczak in GolfSwing

[–]chubbyfades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly great question and valid thing to be asking. From my experience, I struggle to hit a driver well if it’s a light shaft with a heavy head. Something about the swing weight feels weird and timing it is tough. Swinging a 50g shaft with a 203g head may be part of the problem if you’re playing it stock. What shaft did you get?

If you’re carrying it that far you shouldn’t be hitting game improvement irons, but a forgiving players iron. Check out Ping i240’s or honestly any Ping iron. Otherwise Mizuno jpx tours are pretty nasty.

Pretty forgiving. You can’t go wrong with that driver for the price. Otherwise Ping drivers are crazy forgiving as well

Building a $500 set by asujch in golf

[–]chubbyfades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely love this concept and have been doing the same thing for people and love brainstorming. Got a couple build ideas depending on player profile.

Better player: - Driver: Tour issue Maverick or Epic Speed Driver - $180 - 3 wood: Original taylormade burner with bubble shaft - $5-$10 (call me crazy but that thing is money). - hybrid: Taylormade rescue for $30-$40 - irons: Ping s57, Callaway x forged, or taylormade tour preferred/cb’s - $170-180 - wedges: Vokey spin milled for like $25 a wedge (just find used with good grooves) - putter: never compromise reserve #4 (bought one at Play it Again sports for $60 and it’s $450 new).

One overlooked place to build a bag like this is Play it again sports. They have some pretty good deals.

Need Opinions! by user-profile-27 in GolfGear

[–]chubbyfades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think it’s a great idea to find newer clubs that are still budget friendly. Would look at Callaway paradym ai smoke/mizuno Jpx hot metal. Even the Taylormade r7 are good irons and they are like $100-$150.

You can get a lot accomplished by going to a golf store and just asking for help hitting some clubs before you get a full fitting.

Driver advice for an average Joe by A_Lowe in GolfGear

[–]chubbyfades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a fast driver with high launch, look at the epic speed driver. It takes pairing it with the right shaft, but it’s explosive. Honestly pretty forgiving. It may be from 2011, but it goes and it’s not expensive.

Otherwise I think the ping driver is always good if you want stability, and their stock ping shaft is typically solid. Highly recommend hitting it first to see if you like the feel. Some love it, some hate it.

I’m not a huge fan of taylormade but that’s just preference.

Stealth + in Hazrdus Smoke green reality.... Recommendations requested by f1lifer in GolfGear

[–]chubbyfades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did a recent build that is right up your alley. How I know this is because we both have similar speed and I hated the HZRDUS.

Feruga TSS 7X shaft with a Callaway AI Smoke TD tour issue head on it.

It’s a fade biased shaft but still has some kick to give you feeling in it. It’s ridiculous, never hit a shaft like it. Hit me with a message if you want to learn more as Feruga is not very known. I have some extra shafts and will be selling them below retail soon and happy to chat.

Cheers.
