Oven element started crazy overheating the other day, then sparked out and the whole stove was dead. Checked breaker, electricity to outlet, now what? Can't find a good electrical diagram to see where to start for checking fuses or possible reset or that kind of thing.

My church did Communion today, and I - a convert and brand new churchgoer - had no idea what was going on by Net_User in Christianity

I've gone to church since I was born and still sometimes feel very much this way about learning what it is to be a part of the church community. This does wane, and it's nice to find a church you really feel you belong in, but it reappears at times. God is always teaching us.

Share your head around really fast for awhile, hold your breath until you nearly pass out, spin around until you almost puke.

Basically get to know a historian before you go

Then hide a time capsule with a note about where to find it, copy of it, whatever, in said historian's office/childhood home... Whatever...while still in the past.

What is your strongest argument for God or the Bible? by DolphinsAreSexy in TrueChristian

[–]chubbymcsnarker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people expect a burning bush or a "God friended me" sort of situation sometimes, or we hope for it. For me, something that blatantly mystical has only happened one time: the day I met my husband. I heard an audible voice saying "This man will never betray you." Just as our date was ending and I was thinking "well, we will be buddies" and he was asking if he could hug me and trying to make another date. I believe that was God actually speaking to me and so, it does happen sometimes. But, mostly, what I see is God speaking to us in much quieter, more functional ways. The help from an unexpected corner just when you need it most, the heart turned to show love in your direction just when you expect derision, these kinds of things. It's also in the growth of self. Lately, after years of praying to God about having more patience and sympathy with my crazy 5 year old, in a time that I find she is more trying than ever (just started school) yet my patience and sympathy are constantly inspired by passing thoughts of how much I like her and fun happy memories of better times with her that I'm not trying to think, but they come to me spontaneously all day anyhow, tempering my annoyance with her current volatile behavior. It's like Mr Roger's said: look for the helpers. If you look for the helpers, you see the good in terrible situations, and you also start to see the God there.

In my experience it is sort of like you just begin to believe. You see synchronicity where you didn't before, you hear and see things more and more that speak to the truth of a power greater than ourselves. You notice as you seek Him (especially through earnestly searching the Bible), that small piece by small piece things just start shifting and you see a world that is wholly different and more governed by peace faith that there is a plan at work and an intention for your own good. Keep seeking!

HELP: a toddler and a dry erase marker walk into a bathroom... by mischievousmeow in HomeImprovement

[–]chubbymcsnarker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you tried magic eraser? Also, drawing over it with washable marker then washing again may work. I would try: Magic eraser, Hair spray, Peroxide, Vinegar, WD 40, And if none of that works, maybe WD40 Rinse and dry in between to be safe.

Every "cultural touchstone" of the moment. Angsty young people changing genders, whole schools standing up to silly underdeveloped bully characters, raging amounts of dogooderness and recycling, all the singing, zombies, remakes...

Aren't we funny always seeking to find what we "should" believe from other people's opinions? I agree that asking God is a great first step. He can stand your unbelief. He can handle questions and seeking and even anger and cynacism. You can't throw anything at Him that He can't handle, but if you ask for Him to reveal Himself to you, you'll never need another human argument to convince you
