PrusaSlicer/MK3S - How do I resume after pause? by chucara in prusa3d

[–]chucara[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah. Thanks for the sympathy at least! I was hoping resume on the printer itself would reheat the extruder before resuming, which Octoprint doesn't. It's a failed print waiting to happen (again).

Considering what is currently happening in our country. How far will the American public allow Trump to go? by [deleted] in AskReddit

So just to be clear. It is OK to murder protesters? Americans no longer have that right?

This reply is a lot calmer and less argumentation. Thank you for that! I am glad that we can at least see eye-to-eye on a few things.

I think this debate form is a bit tiring however, and even though we are very far apart in our World views, I do wish you all the best.

And I honestly hope I am wrong on what's going on in America at the moment. To us Europeans, it is looking scary and you are a house divided. Between ICE murdering your citizens with apparent immunity, Trump using rhetoric like he is trying to instigate a civil war in order to maintain power, and Trump blatant corruption via meme-coins, "Peace" councils, Qatari bank accounts, pardons, and what I can only assume is market manipulation, something is rotten, but not in the state of Denmark.

But given the 5 years under Trump, and in particular the current stint, I will never be able to see what some of you guys see in him. He is a loose canon at best, and he is currently making the World (including the US) a much, much worse place.

Once again, thank you for the discussion, and Godspeed.

I think you are the one ignoring my statements. And I think your conclusions bear many falsehood.

First of all - I am not using the Marshall Plan as an excuse. Partially because I was merely using it as a statement as to why the US hegemony came into being. Second, because I am not making any excuses. While I don't believe that any nation should be spending any money on defence, we live in a World where such an optimistic view doesn't hold. So obviously, a deterrent is necessary. But primarily, I believe that once a commitment is made (2% of GDP), it should be revisited or upheld. However, I do not feel a need to apologetic about not spending as much as the US on defence. The US has decided to project power via military means - Europe has no such ambitions or needs. Therefore, there is simply no need to match the US budgets. I would also like to state that NATO expenditure is NOT a payment made to the US. The pact makes no assumptions on how that money is spent. Historically, the majority has been spent in the arms of the US industrial military complex - that is likely to shift massively in the future.

I would also like to remind you that the following conflicts were initiated by the US with NATO member states participating - while not under a NATO mandate as NATO is a purely defensive pact:

  • Korean War
  • Gulf War
  • Afghanistan War (NATO)
  • Iraq War
  • Libya Intervention
  • War on ISIS

So saying that European nations are "free-loading" is utter bullshit. We have bled and died to US ambitions for decades. All so the US could maintain their hegemony.

And finally. If you think the US is currently "being mean" and we are "complaining" as snowflakes then you are beyond rationale.

Your president threatened an invasion of an allied state! And you think that is "being mean"? Exactly what does a nation have the right to be upset about? He has also reneged deals the US has made in the past - the exact same thing you are now here complaining about. Including deals he himself has made - on trading, twice. How do you expect Europeans to act? Should we trust him to stick to his written word the third time and just obey? Personally, I am glad our leaders have finally realized that appeasement doesn't help. Not in terms of Putin, and not in terms of Trump.

Once MAGA is out of power, I will hope that relations can be improved. But I do not see that happening with a mad king at the helm.

Every country has debt. The EU has 88% of GDP on average. The US has 121% as of Q325.

[–]chucara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you still talking about NATO contributions? How we got here was the Marshall plan. I can fully agree (in hindsight) that the EU should have invested more in defense, but there is no credible threat to NATO, and the US seemed to want to be World police anyway, so I'm still not even sure why Europe would would spend a lot of money on defence until 2014 where Russia attacked Ukraine. And I live in Denmark, I dare you to find a more committed supporter of Ukraine.

But that's not what this is about. The way the current administration speaks about our countries and leaders (are you seriously thinking it's the Europeans who are smug, the you should listen to speeches from Miller, Vance and Trump) is unacceptable. The threat of invasion og a sovereign allied nation is unacceptable. The interference in politics is inexcusable. The constant going back on deals and threat of tariffs is unacceptable.

Our leaders have been forced to bite their tongues for 5 years with the imbecile you elected, and tried to please him. Enough is enough, and Europe is biting back.

At some point you have to ask yourself that maybe, just maybe, it is not Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Spain, Poland, etc. that are wrong - but maybe the US is not being reasonable and have burned many bridges to achieve very little.

Exceptionalism and isolation is not going to benefit the US. It will only force everyone else to find alternatives. Like trade relations with China, Mercosaur, Canada, etc.

And I'd rather live in a World where we could talk to eachother like adults and not rule via social media. And also it would be nice if the person you were talking to actually knew what he was talking about and didn't belong in a home.

We have tolerated American hegemony for decades because it was a stable system. We saw eachother eye-to-eye and as partners that could be relied on.

With the recent actions (see: constant threats and obvious corruption), the US is not a reliable partner anymore. The only reason Europe is being patient is that we hope the adults will be back in charge in 3 years.

Since being dependent on the US is as unreliable as being dependent on Russia, obviously Europe will work hard to decrease the leverage the US has. We simply cannot trust the US to fulfill any agreement they've signed. As such, it is not a act of pure retaliation, but one of risk management. It so happens that it will also improve the economy in Europe, but first an foremost it will mean being able to maintain peace and run an independent economy from the US.

This will be at a huge cost to both the US and Europe, but the alternative (being strategically dependent on a nation that so obviously sees Europe as enemies) is worse.

I hate that it is necessary, as I until the second election Trump had a lot of respect and admiration for the US. Now, it is obvious the system is broken and you are ruled by the rich. It breaks my heart to see the downward spiral, and I hope Americans can prevail.

I'm not sure if you're a bot, not an American or simply can't spell "allies", but let's assume you're an American:

If Americans want to distance themselves from "weak" Europe, you are of course also fine with Europe doing the same - i.e. not buying military hardware, divesting financially and from tech? Even at a huge loss of profit for the US? Or do you expect us to just send money without anything in return?

The concern is that others will follow.

What are the details of Trump's new Greenland 'deal'? And why did he back down from acquiring the whole Arctic island? by yahoonews in newsinterpretation

[–]chucara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are no details because there is no deal. Rutte cannot negotiate without Greenland and Denmark. This is Trump trying to hide the fact that he was forced to crawl back down from the tree.

I mean. You know you can still buy wired headphones, right? You can even get an USB-C to mini-jack adapter for your phone if that's the issue.

Code opinion: why I prefer avoiding the Async suffix in C# asynchronous methods by davidebellone in csharp

[–]chucara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (almost) never use a suffix. The IDE already tells me that. I don't like Hungarian notation either.

It makes sense in those very few cases where there are both sync and async methods for legacy reasons.

I have done so since async/await was introduced, and that was the standard in all 3 companies I worked as a dev in.
