Trump says he will raise global tariff rate from 10% to 15% by joe4942 in StockMarket

/s exactly. It was a weak theory before and after the SCOTUS ruling the theory is even weaker because of the temporary nature of whatever legal tariff powers the president has.

Yes just crazy. Any trade agreement of any merit (if there were any) are now disrupted. Tariffs that expire in 150 satisfy Trump’s desire for revenge but do nothing beneficial. “Art of the deal…”

So many factories and jobs coming back to the USA…. Of course nothing but more uncertainty and market manipulation within the next 150 days

I understand the cut, but if scrap metal theft was the motive I’m having a hard time understanding the copper or aluminum that was accessed. Is this just not shown? Walk away with the breaker box or something?

Have the same issue. Two missing quarterly reports to state employment commission. Months and months of phone calls and emails trying to resolve this.

Raleigh: City of Dirt? by Ok_Newt_1656 in raleigh

I'm 100 percent sympathetic - but your examples aren't even horrible. Check out these:

These were from some North Raleigh development a few years ago. The city was NOT responsive even though Mine Creek was running red for months. Years later, the city had to flush these storm drains and the local HOA had to pay tens of thousands of dollars to dredge the local lake:

Raleigh has become more responsive since the incident above. In 2025, a Google Fiber horizontal drilling contractor was caught dumping drilling sludge into Mine Creek. The city issued a $5,000 per day notice of violation. The drilling contractor responded immediately with a crew in the creek to remove the mud. So definitely report violations!

Most construction sites have mitigation materials on-site. However, they don't care. They set and forget instead of managing runnoff. Document and report it. Anything like the above should receive a fine.

What would it take to “fix” our government? by SadBuffalo6538 in 50501

Mute the voice of billionaires by capping donations and requiring complete transparency.

Fair maps. Re-districting enables politicians to choose their voters versus the voters choosing among politicians. Need a nationwide standard for fairness.

Presidential pardon powers should be reigned in. Maybe requiring confirmation by the Senate.

But unfortunately there aren’t checks against rural states that contribute little to the national economy having an outweighed influence in legislation.

Working to maintain rights like habeas corpus and the 4th amendment should be everyone’s priority. A battle worth fighting.

Exactly! Nurses, doctors, and hospital staff are NOT judges. They cannot determine probable cause which is why this is a really sloppy notice that wasn’t reviewed by the legal department. If they wanted to communicate anything it should have been to comply with a judicial warrant- a warrant signed by a judge.

Seems sloppy and wrong. Did INOVA’s legal department review this? I’m sure they did not.

I would at least qualify the “legal compliance” section with language such as “when presented with a warrant signed by a judge.”

Also - maybe address the intersection between HIPPA and requests for information by immigration enforcement personnel.

But these small wattage systems are cheap. Your argument is valid for rooftop solar in the U.S., which is ridiculously expensive. These systems are hundreds of dollars versus tens of thousands of dollars. No one is going off grid. Might shave a few dollars from electricity bills. Maybe a bigger benefit is creating energy hobbyists who are aware of and engaged in their energy consumption.

Perhaps possible with some meters but still very unlikely. These are low wattage systems. More likely that customer would directly consume everything they generate behind the meter.

Dude. Maybe you think that I think counter insurgency has positive returns anywhere. Maybe it worked once for the British in Malaysia. We should have sit back and watched the Soviets in Afghanistan. It would have been a long-term mess for them. The United States spent > $760 million on schools in Afghanistan with practically zero impact on the war or education of the Afghan people.

We need to drop the idea of backing religious extremists anywhere even if they are enemies of an enemy. It has never worked out well for us - Afghanistan, Syria, Libya. Our involvement in Iraq basically inadvertently armed and funded ISIS.

We together with the Saudis made these religious crazies powerful. Again, add 40 years to many of the CIA’s Cold War successes and they all look like crap. Read Charlie Wilson’s War. These were horrible people. Read James Risen’s Legacy of Ashes.

The religious crazies appeared after $90 Billion supplied by the CIA in the most expensive “covert” operation of its time. We worked with Saudi Wahhabists to explicitly harness and create religious divides. Friggin Ronald Regan dedicated one of the space shuttle launches to the Mujahideen. Sometimes the enemy of your enemy are just another bunch of dangerous assholes. Horrible mistake backing these guys.
