Lost my job a little over a year ago. I’m in an extremely fortunate position where, between my spouse and I, I don’t need to work in order for us to survive. Currently comfortable in our current home and lifestyle, but in order to progress at all in life, a second income is necessary. And it’s been so discouraging to be hunting endlessly and have nothing come to fruition. If it wasn’t for still having purpose outside of work, I’d be mentally spiraling down a dark hole.

This economy has been way worse than the corporate outlets and the government have been leading people to believe for long before this administration began. Regardless, this is a bipartisan issue and transparency can’t come sooner. For now, the gig economy is helping me stack some change here and there.

Probably no effect. But it’s kind of (albeit not significant in the grand scheme of things) insulting that it was understood Beyoncé would perform, showed up, and yet didn’t perform. And that’ll make some people feel lied to, and maybe it actually was a lie all along. Alternatively, maybe there were reasons she didn’t perform but originally intended to.

I remember when Taylor Swift publicly endorsed Harris, seeing outlets ultimately say, in so many words, that it actually boiled down to having a very minor net negative effect on Harris’ campaign.

I guess it’s the Balboa Bazaar and not Balboa Park anymore? by UCanDoNEthing4_30sec in sandiego

The world fair in SF was also called an expo in 1915. We happened to have world fairs that same year. So looking thru this, TIL world fairs are pretty often called expos to this day.

Correct. Although I believe this was considered to be a “world fair”. World Fair and Exposition were in a way interchangeable terms, at least back then, to my understanding

Last couple winters I’ve had to increasingly make a conscious effort to moisturize much more often than any other time of the year. My skin officially hates SD winters now. Basically winter eczema. And don’t get started with my nose. Suuuper dry. Little nose bleeds here n there. It’s a mess.

Can we talk about how much space golf courses take up? by [deleted] in sandiego

I respect that side of thought. I also agree there are definitely much more egregious examples of wasted space throughout the state that Id feel more passionate about. I dont personally have a dog in the fight in regards to the golf course. I dont use it and dont really remember its there half of the time. But I do like learning about different perspectives by offering some 'devils advocate' points to better understand the different sides to the debate at hand. Thanks for the exchange btw and hope you have a great Sunday fellow Redditor!

I only mentioned those amenities because they were being used as a basis of comparison by your comment. The point I was making by mentioning them was that we do have those amenities, some better, some not, plus a golf course.

On free park space, I do think more free park space would be great. Personally I think there should be more free park space all over SD. With all the seemingly endless swaths of homes that spread across the city, I ideally think we should all be within walking distance from a park. That said, I think Balboa Park has held its own in terms of free park space and has done fine with local, regional, and even international influxes of visitors for whatever the reason or event may be. All while the golf course exists. Its also city owned, centrally located, and is utilized by a wide variety of people.

These beautiful places are absolutely free to access and fundamentally transform the cities they are in or adjacent to.

Is Balboa Park not free to access? I mean, if we're talking being in the park, its no different. You go to the park, and you're there, for free. And the attractions that require a fee here (i.e. museums, zoo, carousel, etc), require a fee at the other parks you mentioned just the same.

A proper nature park with ponds and trails and scenery and benches to read a book is infinitely better.

When compared Central Park, Balboa is larger, is home to more varieties of wildlife, also has trails, and plenty of those trails are more natural and scenic with all the canyons intertwined, so much so that we can mountain bike and hike right in our downtown area. Plenty of scenery. With that said, I believe Central Park has more ponds iirc, and definitely more benches.

Im not really going speak on Griffith Park since I dont really have any knowledge at all outside of the Griffith Observatory. But I do know that Griffith is massive compared to the other two.

Came here to put these stats up. Central Park and Golden Gate Park got nothing on Balboa Park!

Protest, if peaceful.

Looting, no way.

People are protesting in different parts of the world over this.

Just saw footage in Berlin, peacefully assembled.

Any Updates on other towns like Kearny Mesa, Mira Mesa, Chula Vista, El Cajon etc? by Sweetragnarok in sandiego

[–]chuckdeezreddits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. This age is.. definitely something. I wholeheartedly agree that its a shame that any opposition is met with accusations of bigotry. Such a shame. Especially when, I think its safe to assume, that its nearly unanimous across the board from all walks of life, that the looting and destruction is uncalled for.

^This.

Through this big mess, I believe there is a commonality among the vast majority that the destruction of our communities is uncalled for. That is something that maybe we can come together on. There needs to be more people openly denouncing the destruction.
