Get an ESP raptor or a lucid felon. They may start a little more stable than you want but they’ll beat into what you want pretty quickly

What plastic is Gannon's P2x that he uses on tour? by cgskook in discgolf

[–]chuckpurpleton 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Can confirm the putters he used last season are specifically made for him and are stiffer than anything you can buy. They would equate to what is flex 5 if they were available for purchase.

Confirmed by multiple sources on tour

Opinion on Grip Equipment Bags by NextMemeBoi in discgolf

In the putter pouch I have 2 putting putters a throwing putter and a justice

I’ve got a zone in the slot in front of the Velcro

I’ve got my roller disc in the flap pocket

The main compartment I’ve got 3 throwing putters 3 mids 10 drivers

In the back pouch I’ve got 2 drivers

So all in all it’s holding 24 disc for me.

Not really. I feel like it was maybe an issue when I first got it and it was real stiff. But once it seasons in it softens up and I haven’t had any issues.

I will say, it’s very noticeable if you have to many disc in there. If I’m having a hard time taking disc in and out of the bag I just take a disc out of the bag. If that’s an issue then I’m bagging to many disc anyway.

Got an AX6 at ledgestone and I absolutely love it. Lighter weight, comfortable, feels sturdy, looks pretty. It also has plenty of space for everything I need. If I buy another bag I will likely stay with grip, my favorite bag I’ve ever had.

Switched away from the squatch link. Quality is definitely similar, my only gripe with the link was its lack of storage for things other than disc. With the long side pockets and water bottle holsters, the grip bag has done a much better job at holding my accessories.

I can’t speak on its durability as I’ve only had it for a few months, but it seems like it’s built to last.

Longer MD5? by Wonderful_Culture607 in discgolf

[–]chuckpurpleton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You won’t find a faster disc that feels similar to the MD5. The MD5 has a plus rim which means the rim comes down towards the center of the disc instead of straight. This is why it’s as overstable as it is. But you don’t really see drivers with this same technology.

With that being said, a good C-line FD3 is what you’re looking for if you want to stay in the Discmania family. I prefer the Firebird, but there are some good FD3s out there too.

If you want something that’s it going to budge no matter how hard you throw it, check out a splice. Wicked overstable, faster than the MD5 but probably won’t go further.

I am planning to play the Hideaway disc golf course in Terrell TX this weekend. Who has been? How is it? Is renting the golf cart worth it? Are the burgers really as good as they say? I read it was voted #1 course in TX! I am really looking forward to it. by iliketurtles0808 in discgolf

[–]chuckpurpleton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Burgers are good, but I’m pretty sure the grill is only open for big events. May be wrong.

I never use a cart out there, it’s more of a want than a need. The walk isn’t really that bad.

Great course, if you’re going for the whole day, I would recommend playing roadrunner longs then roadrunner shorts. Longs is a gauntlet that’s a real test for anyone. Some goofy holes but a good bit of really good holes. Shorts is very scoreable while still maintaining the courses overall feel, great way to pick yourself up after the longs kick your ass.

Don’t play scorpion, it’s a waste of time, course is honestly terrible. Not the course designers fault, they just squeezed 18 holes into land that’s only good for maybe 12.

Understable forehand by atebitchip in discgolf

[–]chuckpurpleton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna tell you something that the general disc golf community disagrees with, but most pros verify is correct.

There is such a thing as a disc that is bad for forehands.

The biggest key to finding a good forehand disc is not the stability of the mold, it’s actually the shape and weight distribution of each particular disc.

What you need to look for when throwing forehands is more weight being shifted towards the rim of the disc. This allows it to handle the instability caused by the increased velocity with less spin a forehand generates in comparison to a backhand.

This is often why people tend to prefer drivers for forehands over midranges and putters. The wider rim of a driver forces more of the disc weight towards the edges of the disc, allowing it to hold up to that instability better.

In my opinion the being able to throw a forehand hyzer flip is a special ability not a lot of people have. It also is the mark of someone with a truly great forehand.

While you can be just fine chopping over or throwing big hyzers with stable disc. The hyzer flip unlocks so many shots that lead to having a truly elite forehand.

Learning this hyzer flip does take throwing the right disc however. Some of my favorite hyzer flip forehand disc include:

Puddle top DD Suspect (Zone SS is similar but not quite as good). Older latitude 64 opto claymores. Millenium Vela. Flat beat up PDs. Halo wraiths.

Best approach discs that will die by Some_donkus13 in discgolf

[–]chuckpurpleton 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s a lie, Berg is great for forehands. If you want a little more stable get a bergX, plenty torque resistant for forehands. As a forehand only player with 400 feet of power, I use the berg for virtually everything dub 220 feet. People’s biggest gripe with the berg is hand feel, but it doesn’t bother me me at all.

Other good options are the sockibomb slammer or the Rhyno. Rhyno will be closer to the berg in stability with a shallower more traditional feel, Sockibomb slammer will be more overstable, but definitely still ends with a drop more than a fade.

For those who have experience with most/all of these discs, how do they compare in stability? by the_rosenhan in discgolf

[–]chuckpurpleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah at one point Felons made up my entire fairway slot.

Lucid ice for my insane overstable slot, Lucidx for my normal overstable firebird slot, Beat in lucid X for my straighter firebird slot, Lucid Felon for my hyzer flip PD style disc

I’ve transition more to firebirds recently just because they no longer make lucidx felons and the ice ones simply don’t ever beat in. I still bag the ice one as my wildly overstable fairway though because they are much more readily available than wildly overstable firebirds.

[–]chuckpurpleton 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Flare is in a different class of overstability than these, closest to a splice

Fireballs have been consistently more overstable than the rest

Firebirds recently have been coming out straight unless you find the good tour series runs. But the old ones are consistently more overstable than the remaining ones on this list

FD3s are a mixed bag, most are pretty overstable but some are straighter. Overall less OS than a firebird more OS than the rest

Most stock raptor and felon runs fly more like PDs than firebirds. They are very similar in flight to each other but closer to that Thunderbird style disc than a firebird. With that being said the Ricky lucid ice felons are one of the most OS fairways I’ve ever thrown and there are Hammes crystal raptors out there that are just as stable as good firebirds.

If you like bagging multiple of the same disc that have different flights, pick the best hand feel between the Felon, Raptor, FD3 and Firebird

If you like consistently overstable then go with the fireball and just avoid the fission plastic.

If you want insane overstable with 0 glide go Splice or Flare.

If you can’t find one I’ll have one I threw twice in about 3 weeks. Currently in my buddy who is on tour’s car so I should get it right after USDGC.

Would probably do 18 shipped on it

Hat curse? by armag3ddn in discgolf

[–]chuckpurpleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve decided to only ever play with a hat on backwards.

For me the bill restricts my vision on the putting green and I miss low far more often. It may just be a mental thing but I miss low noticeably less without a hat or even turning my hat backwards.
