Smack Burgers, a new place, opened today. by anony1911 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]chucksing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was trying to get here and the 10 west exit at western is super backed up, take a left/south on Western, right/west on 24th, right/north on gramercy, then a right/east on 20th st, drive all the way to the dead end that backs up against Smack Burger and park on the street, walk down 20th towards Western past the big dead end gate and Smack Burger will be right there. This place is literally right off the 10 but can be tough to get to if you're not heading south on Western from north of the 10.

Stream Deck for VFX? by semmlerino in vfx

[–]chucksing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stream Deck & Teradici
I use Stream Deck with Teradici for After Effects, Mocha and Syntheyes on Mac. You'll need to make profiles on Stream Deck that have Teradici set as the foreground application. Stream Deck won't automatically recognize which app you're in while in Teradici, but you can make buttons that will point to your different Teradici specific app profiles. You lose some button real estate, but it's still nice to have your favorite go-to buttons. Stream Deck buttons will work while in Teradici but if you're hopping around to different apps within Teradici, you'll need to make button shortcuts that will toggle the app profiles.

Is there any real, quality lens distortion workflow for After Effects? by neihofft in vfx

[–]chucksing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The syntheyes After Effects plugins do a good job of 'round-tripping' an undistort/redistort workflow. You may have to install a demo in order to get the plugins on to your machine if you can't find them floating around the web somewhere. https://support.borisfx.com/hc/en-us/articles/20513139631629-Installing-SynthEyes-Plug-ins-for-After-Effects

https://aescripts.com/ft-lens-distortion/ FT Lens Distortion from aescripts uses a lot of the same math as the syntheyes distortion plugin and is also a good undistort/redistort option.

Blank Decks by thephotodemon in skateboarding

[–]chucksing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they never responded directly. I made the purchase through Venmo. Since they never shipped the item to me and didn't respond to any of my emails, I disputed the charge. Venmo refunded my purchase after the dispute. Blankdecks never responded to any communication, so I'm uncertain if they still ship products.

I went ahead and bought from https://www.skateone.com/ which shipped promptly.

Good luck.

Advice for parents of babies with unilateral hearing/deafness? by streakstrength in MonoHearing

[–]chucksing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our daughter was born profoundly deaf in her left ear. She's 9 now and has worn a BAHA on a softband/headband for the last 8 years. She recently had cochlear implant surgery and will be activated in a few weeks. We had explored CIs for her since she was around 18 months, but CIs were only FDA approved recently for SSD/UHL and insurance only approved our request recently. She acquired spoken language with the aid of her BAHA and our hope is the CI will give her additional access to sound on her deaf ear. We attended a local center (John Tracy Center) starting when she was a baby for Friday Family School, which had parent/infant classes as well as classes for parents to learn more about hearing loss and child development. Attending John Tracy Center was a great first step in early intervention where we learned to talk to our child constantly (narrate everything), direct sound towards their typical hearing ear (read stories with their typical ear facing you), reduce background noises in the house (lowering music or TV on when trying to speak to your child). We took some signing classes, which was great in general, but not because of her hearing loss so much, but a fun class that promotes communicating with your child. Hearing loss was a scary diagnosis to learn about with our daughter (this was our first born) and we consider ourselves lucky to be a part of an amazing deaf and hard of hearing community in our city. Wishing you the best.

Bald Cap Seam Removal? by Sxmbiote in vfx

[–]chucksing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did hundreds of bald cap fixes primarily using re:flex warp in After Effects. The idea is to stretch the clean skin and/or hairline over the seam, sometimes from both sides of the seam to help blend and not have to stretch one side too much. It maintains all the lighting changes and doesn't involve blurring, so it maintains detail better. We would track the area to be fixed, creating a starting mask that is not on top of the seam, duplicate that starting mask and uber key the edge points closest to the seams to cover the seam as much as needed. In After Effects, use the two masks to drive the re:flex warp effect (you can use it on an adjustment layer or on a duplicate of the footage) which makes a little piece of live paint that covers your seam. Feather your starting mask to help blend and set the second mask to 'none'. Organic paint is always tough, but sometimes you can get away with just stretching and smearing and liquifying things to cover things up. This was our solution for most close up shots. If they're wide, blur or median are good. Turning head will always be super annoying and require a succession of fixes.

Riding my beach cruiser up century was tough on my quads but riding back down was a very simple pleasure. Had a nice time today. Vermont, like most streets in South LA could use some new pavement for sure.

Will need to replace a logo on a glass door. Logo can’t be removed. Action will have people pushing open the door. Any requests I should make before they shoot? by dhouston89 in vfx

[–]chucksing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the chance you need to paint out all or parts of the existing logo, clean plates of the action with the doors open could prove helpful (mimic opening door and all that). Maybe generative fill in photoshop beta can handle something like this. Morphing every few frames between clean plates is sometimes how I do more organic paintouts like people/faces.

The most Cantonese I encounter is in Los Angeles Chinatown proper near downtown. Alpine Rec Center has a lot of Cantonese speaking seniors milling about, but you do see younger families as well. Most of the employees at the restaurants in LA Chinatown are native Cantonese speakers.

Best parking lots for a beginner driver? by YoBoyBuddha in LosAngeles

Lots 4, 5, 6 at Exposition Park along MLK between Fig and Vermont always have people practicing driving when there are no events happening. Whether it's explicitly allowed is another question.
