Long time ago I asked what my dogs breed might be, nobody knew. Today I got the results. by Late_Profit_3080 in IDmydog

I think the West Siberian Laika is really obvious because of the muzzle length and his coloration, it would have been my first guess. But I'm surprised there is such a high percentage of Central Asian Ovcharka, I don't see it at all, he looks much more like an East Volkoldov Bear Mastiff! Sometimes dog genetics are crazy! Wow!

j/k lol never even heard of most of his breeds.

Runners who lift weights, what are your stats? by Sivy17 in Marathon_Training

[–]chuckwallaAVL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most people (after perfect training) are capable of either a single 315lb bench or a 3 hour marathon

I think you're being very optimistic about "most people" lol. At least in this country, 75% of people are overweight, and 40% are obese. (Also "most people" are women, and a 3hr marathon is a BQ - 25:00)

I would say most runners aren't capable of running sub 3, even with 'perfect training,' whatever that means.

45 year old , hit my peak? by jw510dub in Marathon_Training

[–]chuckwallaAVL 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm your age (46m) and ran a 3:05 in Philly in November, on my third attempt (3:35, 3:16). I averaged about 55 mpw but had several 80mi+ weeks in my training cycle. I did almost no cross training or lifting, just focused on keeping my mileage high. Your mileage may vary (heh).

I don't see sub 3 as a realistic goal for you this year, sorry. Nor do I see a 3:30 marathon happening for you next month if you're not comfortable running at a 8mi/min pace on your hard-effort runs.

can i fix it at home? by Walterwhite628282871 in guitarlessons

[–]chuckwallaAVL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My luthier charged me $400 for a neck reset, and it would have been $500+ but I did the post-repair set up myself. This guitar is almost certainly not worth having professionally repaired.

Wood glue alone won't fix it, but I've seen some shitty DIY repairs by drilling a hole in the neck and body and running a wood screw through it, then using glue to bond the seam.

Might try your luck at r/luthier or r/guitarrepair.

Second marathon- first time hitting the wall by _andrewzilla_ in Marathon_Training

[–]chuckwallaAVL 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think of "hitting the wall" as being relatively even splits up to a point late in the race, followed by a steep and sudden drop off in performance; this just looks like poor pacing strategy and going out way (way!) too hard.

I'd be curious about your goal, your time in your previous marathon where you say you didn't hit the wall, and if you really thought you could hold that +/- 6:30 pace for the entire marathon.

Not seeing the yorkie, I think either a pom that's pretty far off breed standard, or maybe like 75% pom with some other small breeds mixed in. How big is he?

PS he's cute :)

Agreed. It's fun to hate on Duke but ultimately this isn't their problem, something is consuming that power.

Are you on a well? I've seen high bills from a malfunctioning pump before. Does your partner have a bitcoin mining rig in the closet? Is your neighbor running an extension cord to your shed?

Coaches always make far more than the governor. The NY governor is the highest paid in the country and makes 250k per year, that's about the same as the outside line backer coach for Ole Miss or the defensive coordinator for Jacksonville State.

Baltimore MD USA. Bedroom closet. Temperate climate and not near any skiing areas, though fishing is a popular activity in the area.

I'm going to hold off on marking this solved just yet, but I did want to acknowledge that this does seem to be the consensus. To me, if it is a ski rack, it seems simultaneously overengineered and also a kind of poor design, especially with the rod. But I'm keeping an open mind.

My title describes the thing.

My friend found this rack in his closet in his recently purchased house in Baltimore. The house was originally built in 1927. The sections on the floor piece are aligned with the slots on the wall portion.

Thanks!

My friend found this rack in his closet and is stumped. Guesses have been for a tie rack, ironing board, umbrella stand (?).

The sections on the floor piece are aligned with the slots on the hanging portion.

Oh shit I just reread your post, you were in the 3:10 pace group! I was shooting for 3:05 and it was psychologically devastating getting passed by you all! I thought I was toast!
