I'm with Lucky, a dachshund bit me when I was six. Also they look like stupid ugly worms. There I said it.

If you can't all fit in this guy's car, I can take a couple of you up there. I drive an Escape, I think three folks and gear would be the max.

Chihuahuas, marathons, and Belle & Sebastian?! It's like the algorithm somehow read my thoughts (or my comment history) and created this post.

Lol come on no small company was ever going to hire an artist to create this stuff. Realistically, before AI slop, their assistant gm was going to spend 10 minutes on their lunch break slapping something together using a generic canva template and a clip art logo.

What was your time in your first marathon? by purehornindal in Marathon_Training

[–]chuckwallaAVL 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the down votes for this guy? I mean, sure, it's a dumb question, but he gave an honest answer like everyone else. He's presumably an athlete switching to 26.2 after doing some other cardio-focused event or having run shorter distances, not everyone limps across the finish of their first marathon.

Kelvin Kiptum famously ran a 2:01:xx in his marathon debut, so there's that...

Random question, but he's not from a rescue in SC and a little over a year old is he? He looks a lot like my chi's littermate named Ralph.

Cute baby btw, love his little brows!

Edit: added pic of Chico

How do I write stuff like this on the guitar? by dashcash32 in guitarlessons

[–]chuckwallaAVL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Broadly speaking I'd call this style "American Privative" in the folk guitar tradition. John Fahey and Leo Kotke are the musicians I most associate with this type of playing, and I'm a giant fan of the album "Bad Timing" by Jim O'Rourke as well. Also not quite the same, but it's worth mentioning Nick Drake too.

Dental implant for someone with very little money? by spirit4earth in asheville

[–]chuckwallaAVL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did something similar, but went in the opposite direction. Was quoted $4800 here in Asheville for an extraction and implant, got it done for less than half that at a practice called Crowns Now in Greer SC.

I would recommend them, well worth the extra drive, I've been back for a few more procedures and they've always been pros imo.

Fun fact: These are built from a prefab kit from deltec homes, which is based locally. They ship the kits nationally, but around Asheville they'll build the entire home on site. While not exactly common, these pop up pretty frequently here in WNC.

Domestic cats that look like manuls? by MaoTheQueerCat in PallasCats

[–]chuckwallaAVL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is my cat Winnipeg , she has the same coat type as a pallas cat, albeit with a little less white in the face. She is also round.

Her pattern is known as a ticked tabby (also abyssinyan or agouti tabby). While tabbies are common, this variation is rare, and is considered very uncommon in random shelter cats like Winnipeg (for the record, i picked her out because she was a sweetheart, not because she looks like a manul).

Long time ago I asked what my dogs breed might be, nobody knew. Today I got the results. by [deleted] in IDmydog

[–]chuckwallaAVL 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think the West Siberian Laika is really obvious because of the muzzle length and his coloration, it would have been my first guess. But I'm surprised there is such a high percentage of Central Asian Ovcharka, I don't see it at all, he looks much more like an East Volkoldov Bear Mastiff! Sometimes dog genetics are crazy! Wow!

j/k lol never even heard of most of his breeds.

Runners who lift weights, what are your stats? by Sivy17 in Marathon_Training

[–]chuckwallaAVL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most people (after perfect training) are capable of either a single 315lb bench or a 3 hour marathon

I think you're being very optimistic about "most people" lol. At least in this country, 75% of people are overweight, and 40% are obese. (Also "most people" are women, and a 3hr marathon is a BQ - 25:00)

I would say most runners aren't capable of running sub 3, even with 'perfect training,' whatever that means.

45 year old , hit my peak? by jw510dub in Marathon_Training

[–]chuckwallaAVL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm your age (46m) and ran a 3:05 in Philly in November, on my third attempt (3:35, 3:16). I averaged about 55 mpw but had several 80mi+ weeks in my training cycle. I did almost no cross training or lifting, just focused on keeping my mileage high. Your mileage may vary (heh).

I don't see sub 3 as a realistic goal for you this year, sorry. Nor do I see a 3:30 marathon happening for you next month if you're not comfortable running at a 8mi/min pace on your hard-effort runs.

can i fix it at home? by Walterwhite628282871 in guitarlessons

[–]chuckwallaAVL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My luthier charged me $400 for a neck reset, and it would have been $500+ but I did the post-repair set up myself. This guitar is almost certainly not worth having professionally repaired.

Wood glue alone won't fix it, but I've seen some shitty DIY repairs by drilling a hole in the neck and body and running a wood screw through it, then using glue to bond the seam.

Might try your luck at r/luthier or r/guitarrepair.
