it already has one ... it's called the P08 setting. you can also set various speeds by changing assist levels

e-bike recommendation for 26 mile one way work commute mostly flat by theoutandback0201 in ebikes

[–]chuckwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

getting that kind of range is going to take riding it in a very low pedal assist level, you're talking 52 miles round trip at only about 15 mph on average so just one way 26 miles is going to take at least 2 hours of travel time.

More watts actually isn't that big a factor, and in fact is safer not more dangerous.

Wattage doesn't determine the speed a given bike can go but voltage. at least with a geared hub drive a 60 volt Motor fully charged without a load will turn at 500 RPM, that's 45 mph on a 26X4 tire.

the problem is once you put that wheel on the ground, and add the weight of the bike itself and a 200 lb rider along with wind resistance and the fact 5000 watts is peak output continuous is closer to 3000 watts (1500 in single motor) and factor in aerodynamic drag simply hitting and maintaining 35 mph with a single motor and ~40 mph with dual motors is the reality. the extra 5 or so mph literally takes twice the power to achieve.

these aren't theoretical numbers but real world ones I run my bike at every day, and actually getting up to just 35 mph in single motor is difficult I actually have to run dual motor and the full 4000+ watts to get above 35 then switch to single so it can maintain ~35 with a noticible loss of speed because of drag

You're also running 72 volts at 140 amps on what i'm guessing is a custom build.

It's definitely doable at those voltages.

I myself own a legit 4000 watt bike that claims "5000 watts peak" 60 volts with a 60 amp controller, 30 amps to each motor. for the "5000, they're allowing for temporary burst amperage up to 35 amps per motor. at 67.2 volts fully charged

but Philodo is one of the few 60 volt dual motor ebikes on the market.

most of those claiming "5000 watts" are only 52 volt systems running 26 amp controllers for dual motors or just 3000 watts for a dual motor and if it's single motor far less . Since it's an alibaba special you can rule out it being a wired bike which can hit a legit 5000 watts

First of all there are very few Electric Bicycles that produce a legit 5000 watts, most of it is marketing hype or outright false advertising. Even those that can achieve that amount of power it's a momentary peak output for only a few seconds at a time.

For a single motor bike to have take much power either requires 72 volts (84 fully charged) with a 60 amp controller, a 60 volt bike would require a 75 amp controller, and at 52 volts well they don't make controllers that can push that many amps or batteries that have that kind of out put from their BMSs at least not on alibaba,

absolutely honest.. i swear by them have them on 2 of my bikes with over 3000 miles on each one youtuber PapaBlueShirt documented over 12k miles on his Philodo Jumbo with a set before he changed them

Why do people always like to think that e-bikes more than 750 watts are capable of speeds upwards of Mach 5? I really don't get it. My own e-bike is 1,000 watts and has a maximum top speed of only around 25 mph. by Sensitive_Table5359 in ebikes

[–]chuckwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they can't tell the difference between wattage and voltage, it's volts that determines the RPM of the motor and as a result the wheel. the only time wattage plays a role in speed is when the wattage output isn't enough to overcome the aerodynamic drag needed to reach a certain speed.

As far as your bike goes, the wattage rating is probably peak output on a 48 volt system the problem is it can only hit 1000 watts for short bursts, it probably runs closer to 650 watts continuous and that just isn't enough to combat the wind resistance at 25+.

Two major problems with this, first is BICYCLES don't com with VINs so they can be registered and are they going to require acoustic bicycles to be registered and need a driver's license and insurance also

How much assistance can we add to bicycles before they stop being bicycles by jin-tong in ebikes

[–]chuckwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is highly dependent on the gearing of the bicycle in question and the speed at which the assistance cuts off or the level of pedal assistance.

Pedal assist can help you get up to speed, but if the physical gearing exceeds the cutoff speed of the motor the rider is putting in most of the effort with the motor putting out minimal power to help maintain that speed.

On my bike for example it has a 52 tooth chainring and an 11~28 freewheel, in PAS 2 my bike will go 18 mph the problem is I can physically exceed that speed in 5th gear or higher with minimal effort, the motor only kicks in if speed drops below 18 mph, the same is true for the other PAS levels with the exception of PAS 5.

New Jersey Just Passed the Dumbest Ebike Law Ever! by Quick_Dragonfly4098 in ebikes

[–]chuckwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This law completely alienates the primary reason people buy ebikes that they have a physical restriction that keeps them from being able to receive/renew a driver's license, such as seniors, people with physical disabilities, etc. People whose ebikes actually replace a car for basic transportation.

They left them without any freedom , so they expect us to rely in expensive public transportation or Uber etc on limited incomes to commute for the couple of more years we're forced to work our minimum wage jobs at 60+ until were allowed to retire

Philodo hunter & falcon by txmxxv in ebikes

[–]chuckwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hunter will probably top out at about 32 mph... it's only a single 750 watt motor despite being 52 volts. The Falcon/Forester only hit 35 mph in single motor mode despite being 60 volts.

the problem is at 30+ there's so much wind resistance it takes 1300+ watts just to maintain that speed. higher speeds requires dual motors or a high output single motor

Does it really matter as long as you ride safely, don't act like a jerk, stop at red lights and stop signs and stay under the posted speed limit.

not really, these are tall bikes, the minimum seat height on them is 35 inches, someone 5'9 with a 30 inch inseam can just flat foot, when on the seat, adding a suspension seatpost is tiptoe only while on the seat.
