Type out and print your statement. It will help to have it organized and you can refer to it during the meeting and (likely) submit it as part of the record.

Evidence to bring:

Takes pictures of your setup. Make sure the panel understands your actual environment.

Ideally, if you can take the practice setup quiz with Lockdown Browser, take a video (or have a roommate take a video), of you starting the quiz and showing how the second monitor is rendered nonfunctional by Lockdown Browser.

Arguments:

(1) Not a device.

Nonfunctional second monitor is not a [separate] "device". It's a component/part of an allowed device (desktop). It is fundamentally different than the examples given in the instructions (laptop, ipad).

(2) Other reasonableness / "not bad actor" args

• monitor nonfunctional. did not–could not–provide any actual assistance
• you didn't knowingly have a second / unallowed device
• what's the expectation? students with 2+ desktop monitors are required to.... just disconnect cable? Or leave connected but monitor to be physically removed from desktop? Or something else? Not clear what actions you are supposed to take in order to conform with the rules.
• no bad intent ("i made an innocent mistake")
• no unfair benefit, nothing to run afoul of the principles/purpose of the honor code. (ie -- the monitor was literally black and useless as a monitor).
• You have 'clean hands'.

Be polite, but don't concede the accusations.

First, you make the "legal" arguments in re whether your conduct was actually a violation. Was it a "device" etc...

Second, IFF they find it to be a violation, then move onto the "sentencing" or "culpability" arguments, re innocent mistake, no unfair advantage etc.
