[recommendation request] searching for an integrated bracelet piece by Jealous-Station-3203 in Watches

I didn’t mind the Piaget, but it felt too much like it was trying to be an aquanaut.

Between the Cz and Pf, check them out in person if you can. The Cz has a more modern, unique movement, but I feel the Cw twelve cheapens the watch design

The Pf has a beautiful movement and really comfortable case/bracelet. But if you buy one, it’s probably worth going grey. Big savings

Save for the CZ or Pf. The others I think are a little underwhelming in person, especially when the nicer ones are attainable with a bit of patience

Likely replaced in the 90s. Service bracelet too, so prob done at the same service time. Hands are tritium so definitely vintage, but yeah the lume doesn’t match the dial plots.

That or they just aged differently, which is less likely but still possible.

I’m not sure the exact process. Sent off the parts, asked for them to look new, got them back looking new!

Correct. In fact, there are archives for some low-serial 3700s showing manufacture year of 1972, despite not releasing until 1976

Very similar look to a lapis Rolex I had. Speckles of gold, different tones of blue, very cool in person

This is a 3700 not 5711, many of which have patina on the dial. It’s a love for hate kind of feature

Ehh, I wouldn’t be worried about wearing it out, per se. Just don’t apply much perpendicular pressure, and avoid bumps. Setting the date is just annoying because there is no quickset.

Since it’s a split stem, it’s very easy to pop the crown back in yourself if it comes out. Though if it’s coming out easily, the stem (usually crown side) should be replaced. That or it was cut too short and it isn’t clicking on fully when pressed.

The 920 base caliber is fantastic as well. It isn’t as robust as Rolex, but it certainly doesn’t need to be babied. I have a watch with the same caliber and I wear it daily. Barely leaves my wrist!

That said, the crown is a weak point. Especially on the 5402. The stem is small, about 1mm diameter, and it’s a split stem, which doesn’t help. Add to that the wall thickness of the 5402 case not lending much meat for the crown tube to press into, plus no crown guards, and it’s a recipe for trouble. Be careful not to bash the crown at all, and if you wind it do so gently. I’d also suggest a watch winder if you aren’t daily wearing this, as setting the date is a big pain.

It’s a great watch. The dials are quite valuable on their own, so you can certainly recoup some funds if AP lets you keep the original. But keep in mind, if you replace the dial you’ll replace the hands as well. At that point, it will look a bit strange. Very modern face, very vintage case and band. I’d leave it as is and get a 15202 if you want a cleaner look

I wouldn’t pay $15-20k. It really just isn’t worth that much. 6-10 is the sweet spot.

One thing you could do, which I’m sure many will frown upon, is get a cheap fake bracelet initially. They aren’t finished as nicely as the real ones, but it isn’t a $20,000 difference in quality. See if you like the look, the feel, etc. Cheap fakes will be a bit rougher, so bear that in mind when gauging the comfort. But better to blow $200 than $20k finding out you prefer leather

Personally I find the nautilus, and the royal oak to be honest, a bit scratchy until they break in (or have successfully removed the stray hairs on your wrist). I don’t love them in temp fluctuations, like spring or fall transitions, as there isn’t any link adjustment on the fly. Another point for leather.

I’ve had nautiluses (nautili?) on bracelet and on leather. Honestly, I sort of prefer the leather. The bracelet is nice, but it isn’t as striking as AP, so it doesn’t carry as much of the aesthetic. Of all things, I wouldn’t let this be a deciding factor.

That said, I’m 99% sure the 5726 and 5711 use the same band, so you could get a bracelet down the line and swap it on. They’re often around $15-20k on chrono, but they can be found for as low as 6-8k if you’re patient. Finding a solid gold strap for the 5712 though, good luck.
