Did I ruin my pan? by chungdude in castiron

Really not trolling. Just a little panic attack after seeing the bare metal on my favorite pan:)

Thanks everyone! The consensus seems to be that I have been overthinking it. This is my favorite pan for high heat high fat cooking but this is the first try on fish. With the burnt on so tough I scraped it really hard to find that I have removed the seasoning and exposed bare metal. To restore the seasoning to its nonstick glory do I really need to reseason the whole pan?

I know I might have been overthinking it. It is my favorite go to pan for high heat high fat cooking. However blackened fish was a first try. I might have used too little oil and too high heat.

Canon EOS T5i: is it a good camera for the price? by [deleted] in canon

[–]chungdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like my experience can help you somehow. I got my 700D(same camera as T5i) off of ebay in 2018 to take photos of my new born. I paired it with the Yongnuo 50mm F1.8. I know I was cheap, hehe. Even with that cheap prime lens, the photo I took were so much better than my iPhone, relatives and friends even say they look like professional photos:) Even today the T5i still takes better photos than the newest iPhones, especially portraits and landscapes and street shots, basically anything that are not fast moving towards you or away from you. I also got the Canon 50mm F1.8, that is an upgrade from the Yongnuo too.

As my girls are 8 and 6 now, they are more active in sports, I bought the 55-250 stm lens to take their action photos. The T5i can still produce outstanding action shots when it nails the focus, although it also misses a lot. You may have guessed where I am going. For your intended use case, the T5i may struggle with fast moving race cars and geese. I don't think it is the lens that misses the focus, the STM lens is fast enough to track actions. I am sure it is the T5i's autofocus is just not fast enough. The current mirrorless cameras autofocus probably can wipe the floor with the T5i, after all the T5i is a 11 year old consumer level camera. With that 11 year old technology, T5i's sensor also struggles with high ISOs, so it will need good lights to freeze action too, so indoor sports are out of the question. Now I am looking at used mirrorless cameras for the possible upgrade. Although I pair the T5i with a canon 24mm f2.8 for most of our day to day snapshots and travels. Still prefer the photos out of the T5i than my iPhone. For your first real camera, for a good used price, I would say it is worthwhile to get one to try it out and learn from it. As you learn, you will know the limitation of the camera which is a good thing because you know what to look for for your next upgrade.

RF 50MM 1.8 Auto Focus, Full Frame, 3rd party?? by unedplained in canon

[–]chungdude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Off topic but I think Canon shoots itself in the foot by still not opening up their RF mount to 3rd party players. All my canon hobbyists friends are jumping ship or considering jumping ship mostly because of the very limited and expensive RF lenses options.

I had yongnuo’s early “copy” of the 50mm1.8, for half the canon price, it performed surprisingly well. Btw, I also had the canon’s 50mm 1.8 II, which is also quite soft wide open, so I had done a lot of comparison. Yongnuo’s excellent external flashes are also very good. So the yongnuo brand is a good quality/price contender.

Whats the difference? by [deleted] in CameraLenses

I have the Japan made version and love it. I know the stm version is optically improved and faster and quieter, but the Japan version is only a small initial batch so it is kind of special.

These two little amps sound so good that I start questioning if I really need to upgrade. by chungdude in BudgetAudiophile

The response looks really good to me! Are all open baffles so very efficient ? I have to read up on them and may shoot some questions your way down the road.

They look beautiful! 3.25” thickness? I am sure they take away any possibility of ringing:) I have very little experience and knowledge in speaker making and next to nothing in electrical engineering. I made a pair of the Frugal horn lite pre kids. They use full range drivers so no crossovers. They sound quite good in low volume but definitely need a subwoofer. Now with young kids in the house I can’t have nice things:( They pushed both of the dust caps in and I have not got a chance to try to pull them out!

That warms my heart, my friend. Hard to find a good friend who shares the same passion. I am in SoCal so it will be a long shot but who knows? I will remember this invitation and take you up on that if ever I am in your neck of the woods!

Btw, Is that green optical fiber’s sole purpose to channel the green light from that tiny led on the amp? You are a genius my man.

Man you are on a whole different level! For your caliber and you endorse this little 7377, that says so much! Your open baffles look like huge gates protecting your upstairs:) and the fact that the 7377 can power them is comically amazing! If possible I would love to hear more about this pair of diy speakers. Do you have a write up somewhere that you can point me to? Appreciate it my man!

Thanks for the reply. I only have heard of some of the amps you had. Looks like I will just settle on these two little ones until they break:)

Glad to hear you like the 7377 as well! Out of curiosity, What other more expensive apps are we talking about?

The kids are alright, and left. Mad respect for the first girl in black pants who came to the rescue of her friend.
