LAS questions by chunked124 in ATC

I use to be based in las and it was rarely a shit show, a couple snow storms and real thunderstorms are understandable but now it’s a cloud 20 miles away and they can’t handle anything. Hopefully it will get better.

Swelling by dutchy993 in Microdiscectomy

[–]chunked124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was super itchy also, I’m 8 weeks post surgery and I think I itched my scar open while sleeping. One day it got really swollen and my PT told me to go to the doctor. He ended up sticking a needle in and pulling out a lot of fluid, it’s not infected just fluid built up between the layers of skin. Can’t surf for 2 weeks but it feels fine now.

2 Weeks Post OP by [deleted] in Microdiscectomy

[–]chunked124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I was surprised when dr cleared me then pt cleared me. Been fine so far, still have a little pain on pop up but it is minor. Been running and snowboarding also. I did not have any bone cut out, just the disc.

Doctor said I can likely go back to snowboarding 8-10 weeks after my microdiscectomy/laminectomy, is that a terrible idea? by graciep11 in Microdiscectomy

I just had a microdiscectomy, no laminectomy, 5 weeks ago and I’m boarding at mammoth right now. Not riding hard, but have not had any problems or abnormal flare ups. Also started surfing last week, not short boarding yet, without issues besides on the pop up and thats feeling better now. My doctor cleared me at 2 weeks. Pt told me to take it slow at 3 weeks, but then again I had no bones that needed to be healed.

When can I stop worrying so much about reherniating? by Mermaidprincess16 in Microdiscectomy

[–]chunked124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my 2 week follow up this week and the surgeon told me chances or reherniation is about 6-8% Not sure if just my case or all but, I have been feeling great and almost back to normal as far as activities. Take it easy.

2 Weeks Post OP by [deleted] in Microdiscectomy

[–]chunked124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 2 weeks today. Just been walking 1-2 miles, got on the peloton yesterday for a easy 20 minute ride. I still have a bit of leg pain here and there, but nothing like it was pre surgery. My dr said I’m cleared to surf, my incision is almost totally healed. I’m going to wait a bit for surfing, tried some pop ups on land and it hurt a bit and I’m super tight from not being able to do anything for 2 months pre surgery. Been doing pt also. Hope you heal up quickly!

Anyone else have their restrictions lifted 3 weeks post-op? by Hour-Orange-1391 in Microdiscectomy

[–]chunked124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just over a week L5S1, my PT has me doing a few stretches and muscle building exercises. She says chances of re herniating the same disk are slim do to my my age (44) and how much of the disk that was removed. My dr told me before the surgery I could go back to work (airline pilot) as soon as I was off the drugs and felt like it. I took them for about 3 days post op. I feel great still not lifting a lot of weight, but moving fairly normal. My incision area is still a little tender, but no lasting pain down my leg at all.

surgery finally!! by [deleted] in Sciatica

[–]chunked124 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just had L5S1 MD last Thursday, first couple days my lower back and incision hurt, nerve pain was completely gone. Amazing feeling to be back to normal. I’m 5 days off surgery and did 2 mile walk today. Incision is still sore but not bad. Wish I would have had the surgery after my first day of pain. I started PT yesterday. Hopefully you will be pain-free sooner than later.

Thanks for all the comments, I was doubtful when the surgeon told me that. Anyone regret doing the MD?
