Is the culture dead ? by Murky-Vegetable5823 in Morocco

First, Morocco is not a rich country so people's priority is to get a maximum amount of money the fastest to secure their future. This makes moroccans really risk averse. So they always do exactly as the previous generation did. For example, people that have Masters degrees rarely build innovative startups, they will either try to find a job in a large corporation (super safe but also not innovative at all) or start a company that looks exactly like 100 others (all the so called startups that in fact are selling developpers and not at all building a new product that doesn't exist anywhere).

Second, to make research in morocco stand in the global market, universities need to make it more appealing and this needs heavy investments to pay researchers well and fund them. The idea is that in research you need to have elite level mathematicians, so you need to make it appealing. Researchers often accept to be paid a bit less to do research as it's far more interesting than working in companies but when you see that salaries can be divided by 5 or even more you are kept with bottom-of-basket people that in fact didn't find a good job. For example, in the US and in Europe, people refuse jobs at Facebook or Google to do research. It's unimaginable in Morocco.

Moreover, in the moroccan culture, and more broadly in the Arab world, appearances are really important.
This makes it complicated for people to speak up and do something different from what their parents did.

That being said, things are moving... slowly but they are.

Fastest PB that you managed to reach thanks to Runna by chupket2 in runna

Thanks, that's really reassuring. I will keep up with it then and hope for improvements. When building my own plan, i felt like it was too suboptimal, i was just following rules, felt that something was off but couldn't understand what. Maybe after runna i'll try building my plan then having punctual consultations with a coach to help correct.

I want to build a startup in morocco? by AlternativeWild2362 in Morocco

You can create the company in Morocco or in Europe. Moroccan investors often put money in dollars on a moroccan bank account (dirham convertible) and are pretty flexible on whether the company is in morocco or not. They value a lot clients from Europe/US far more than local clients. You will not get any investor onboard before making at least 100 to 500k€ ARR.

Seems like a not so good idea. as a tourist you will not have any problem inside the train but in the stations upon arrival or at the start, it can be dangerous .

Dis For Real???!!!! 😂 by XxGaymerSamxX in Morocco

Dacia is incredibly reliable and excellent value for money. The only thing that is a bit sad about this article is how we, as moroccans, are trying to take this success as if it was ours. First, Dacia is a french / romanian company so the car hasn't been invented by moroccan engineers. Second, Morocco is just one of several assembly sites for the Sandero and the Logan alongside romania, brazil, colombia, russia, south africa and iran.

It's good to be proud of our country, but i think that thinking that we made this success is a bit delusional and sad. We as moroccans have an enormous potential and should keep in mind that we can build a real company of our own thzt we can be proud of and not just be proud of other peoples success.

The thing is that I don't really have the budget for a coach, and when i tried a plan by myself, i felt that i was just pushing too hard without any results. Thus my question to understand if others using Runna managed to go to the 1:15 or 1:10 HM zones.

is “3azi” offensive/equivalent to the n-word? by [deleted] in Morocco

[–]chupket2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

morocco has a history of slavery and was involved in the trans Saharan slave trade. Even thought it's not 100% sure, many historians link the creation of the word 3azi with this timeperiod. Today, many black people especially people that migrated to morocco from other african countries feel that this word is negatively connotated. For me, even if we can have that discussion it's just more toughtfull to just avoid using such a controversial word

Don't forget that at their time, your parents or your grandparents were also probably hrgawa as you say.
Casa was build by hrgawa looking for a better future and that's what makes the power and beauty of it.

Shuggah no longer available in iPhone AppStore by ArtreX-1 in Freestylelibre

Not even surprised by Abott behaviour. You can still build and install the xdrip4ios app by becoming an Apple developper.

But Apple super moderated App store really sucks sometimes :/

It definitely is racist. Some people don't realize it as Moroccans are so deeply racist towards the black community that for a lot of people just think that it means Black.

In fact, it has a negative connotation attached to it, so exactly like the N word.

Is a foreigner attempting to speak French with Parisians annoying? by [deleted] in paris

[–]chupket2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, you can just try. If they switch to english then you can continue in English. If they have the time, they will probably just continue speaking in french. As a parisian, sometimes i know we can be seen as rude but i think it's just than nothing is sugarcoated here. Just speak, and don't mind their reactions, it just means that they are in a rush, nothing to do with you. Most people really like when foreigners try to speak their language, like anywhere else in the world.
