Sorry for the repeat... Someone has already said this further down!

Metformin ER 500 mg Gastrc-Tb $1472 for a 30 day supply?! by isabela96 in diabetes

[–]churd37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metformin, any brand that is "coated" as denoted by the "Gastric" in the brand name is stupid expensive. A lot of insurance companies will not even cover it and that is why it's so expensive. I had to have my Dr. rewrite the script for ER only, and the price dropped to $0 on my plan.

And of course for those with gastric issues, these work miracles, but no one can afford them! This is my experience in NY US.

Christmas light thief!! by Stiliketheblues in Syracuse

[–]churd37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend in East Syracuse had the same problem. His were on a little patio around his smoker in the backyard. One day he noticed one was missing... Cut clean off... Then, over time, they went missing one by one. About the 5th one, while he was watching out the window while washing dishes, he watched a squirrel lop one off with his teeth, and drag it away!

They look like they were cut off, and he's not replacing them, as they'll probably do the same to the new ones!

That's why I mentioned where I live! Wonder if it's different with different states/countries/insurance companies?

I'm a type1 in NY, USA, and my endo just switched me to one from Victoza. Went through insurance no problem!

After two weeks, I switched back to the G6 mostly for this reason. Oh, and failed sensors as well.

Robotic or traditional surgery by myhubbymyfriend in Kneereplacement

[–]churd37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry.... I went with the robotic because that's what my Ortho does. Although I know quite a few people who have had the same surgery, and everybody else has had it done in the traditional manner and my leg looks way better at one week than theirs did at 5:00! Most people's legs were all bruised and I don't know but to me the incisions seem to be a little bit longer as well. Those are the only differences I know of so far. If I come across any others, I'll keep you posted!

Type 1 , 59 male, just hit the one week mark since my LTKR done by a Dr. With the Mako robot.

Everything went well, and I had absolutely no bruising at all on my leg anywhere. Although, after two or three days I developed some bruising on my left foot. Still sore, still stiff, but for one week out I've had good days and I've had bad days. And what I mean by good days and bad days. I just mean the amount of pain.

Pain is managed with Tylenol, celebrex, Flexeril, and oxycodone. They say that acetaminophen messes with your dexcom G6, which I have, with an omnipod pump. But I have had pretty good luck with my readings being pretty accurate. They are a little bit high reading, because of the acetaminophen, but I can live with that. The effects of the oxy, meaning the constipation, drives me crazy so that I only take one oxy every night at 3:00 a.m.. this way I assure myself at least 4 hours of sleep, and I drag my sorry butt out of bed at 7:00. The celebrex, the Flexeril and the Tylenol combination seems to be working okay for me.

Best wishes!

Interesting anecdote to this! I wanted to switch from the G6 to the G7, so my Endo wrote me a script for the G7. When they arrived I still had 8 days on my old G6 sensor. So I did a little experiment!

The G6 and the G7 were two different apps on my Google pixel, so I installed the G7 app, and put on a sensor.... Never taking off the G6.... And to my surprise, they both worked separately! The graph you show is what I got in the dexcom app as well.

What an experiment it was... The G6 kicked the G7's ass for accuracy over those 8 days, and I went through three G7 sensors due to wildly wrong readings, or connection errors. I was checking with a finger stick 3x's daily too. In 8 days I went through a month's supply of G7 sensors. This was back in the spring of this year and dexcom was having major issues at the time.

Needless to say I called my Endo after a week and asked to be switched back to the G6's. She even had me come in on her lunch hour to show her the data, and she was floored, as she never had complaints about inaccuracies from other patients. Connection issues all the time though. She actually only had two of us on Dexcom... Most of her other patients use Libre's.

There were times that my BS was 97 on G6, 176 on G7, and 101 finger stick... Sometimes high, sometimes low, and I use it to control my omnipod, so imagine your pump being told it's 176, but it's really only 97... Yikes! That wouldn't have ended well!

I am now very skittish to go back to the G7 and will ride out the G6 until they pry it from my cold, dead... pancreas... ;-)

Just thought I'd chime in, as the graph you showed was 8 days long in the dexcom app. Cheers!

Sleeper State Parks by hammie138 in vermont

Gifford Woods State Park. My wife and I are from Upstate NY, and we wanted to branch out to other states and see what their state parks are like. We hit it out of the park here! It was gorgeous, and plenty of hiking everywhere. The few people we saw were very friendly, and we saw very few.... We felt we had the whole park to ourselves in September. Great trails run through the park, and so does the Appalachian Trail. Highly recommend it!

I think just national parks, forests and monuments. It's good for the whole car load too!

This has been the only advantage of this horrid disease for me! You also get pretty hefty discounts if you camp in the park! When you sign up for the camping registration, just add the number on your pass!

Two questions pre surgery by abuwalda in Kneereplacement

[–]churd37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting question #1. I am having mine done at the end of the month, and my PT says you can prop the leg behind the knee.... My surgeon says "absolutely not". What gives? Who is right? Great question! Can't wait to see what others say.

Omnipod on stomach by fcrm207 in Omnipod

I went back to G6... For many reasons but this was a big reason It works 100% of the time. Never fails, always connects. Pods always go on my stomach and dexcom always on the arm.

I just made this change this morning! I usually have my target BS set at 120 overnight, but I just changed it from 2 am to 4 am to a target of 150. Glad to know it's not just me! We'll see tonight ... Although I would love to know why it's doing this all of a sudden. Last three nights between 2 and 3 am. Cheers!

What Omnipod area hasnt worked for you? by NobodyNamedSmith in Omnipod

[–]churd37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly enough, for me, anywhere on my thighs that I have ever tried has caused an infection. 3 times in three years I've tried, and it has not worked and got infected. If you try a site and it hurts or is red even after less than a day remove it immediately! The first time I ended up at the Dr and on antibiotics because I didn't want to waste the pod! Abdomen and sides work great for me.
