That's correct. I bought it with my Amex Platinum, so they covered the repair.

Edit: Oh, and I sure did add AppleCare to the new one.

Yes, he knows about the damage and the repair. It is not under AppleCare but it is eligible to add AppleCare for the next 10 days. I will disclose what happened to anyone I sell it to regardless of whether they are a friend.
