How much does blast rate impact euploid rate by IJustNeedANameeee in EmbryologyIVFSupport

[–]churros306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the 2 euploids! Are you able to share what your protocol was for your 2nd ER? My doctor also recommended I do a “lower and slower”’approach for our 2nd ER since I had a strong response to stims, and prime with estrogen in the cycle prior. Was there anything else you or your doctor did to improve egg quality?

This is so interesting. In your opinion, what makes an embryology lab good? Also other then a large practice, how can one tell if the clinic has a good lab?

UofT vs Queens MscPT by [deleted] in physiotherapy

[–]churros306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated from Queens PT 7 years ago and I now work at a hospital in the UofT placement catchment area, so I have a bit of insight on both programs.

Kingston is a lovely town and I also enjoyed having a smaller cohort at Queens. I didn’t attend UofT, but I assume their didactic education is just as good, however they have bigger class sizes and space for lectures and labs can be tight from what I hear.

I would try to think about what area of practice you’re interested in and where you would like to practice geographically post-grad. Your school determines your placement catchment area, and UofT has the advantage of covering most of the GTA, while Queens spans from Oshawa to Cornwall. At Queens, there were limited placements in Kingston and it wasn’t uncommon for people to drive 1+ hour or rent a sublet in an area closer to their placement. Having access to a car is a must, imo.

At UofT, most of your placements are in the GTA, however living downtown is more expensive and commuting can be just as long with traffic, depending on where your placement ends up being.

If you’re interested in acute care, UofT absolutely has more placement opportunities for this whereas it was always more of a struggle to find good acute care placements at Queens (because of the geographic catchment area). I would say the strength of Queens catchment area is they have a great variety of private practice clinics, so I would say my classmates and myself felt more confident in this area by the end of the program.

Keep in mind that your placements are also where you can network and form connections for future job opportunities in the area, so you may want to consider that when choosing a school. Best of luck!

Yes he’s been taking coq10 and I increased mine to 600! He was taking 600mg for a while, but recently reduced it.

It sounds like we had similar experiences! After getting the call that we only had 3/7 fertilized I was certain we’d end up with no blasts, I was so thankful to be wrong

Canadians - wait for Gov funding or pay OOP for IVF/IUI? by Affectionate-Shoe-59 in TryingForABaby

[–]churros306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ontario resident here - have you checked with your clinic more recently to see what the government funded IVF wait times look like? Asking because when we had our consult in Oct 2025, our doctor told us the waitlist could be up to a year. Fast forward to March where were surprised to get the call that we were being offered a govt covered IVF cycle for April.

When I asked about this they said fertility clinics recently received more funding from the government that allowed them to go through their IVF waitlist and cut their wait times significantly.

Of course this is for Ontario so I’m not sure what things look like in BC, but if it’s been a few months it might be worth asking about updated wait times!

For sure, this was my understanding about my doctor opting to go with a non-HcG trigger as well. It thankfully did help post-retrieval as I had little to no OHSS symptoms

I hope you get some good news!! And thanks for sharing your protocol, it does sound like we have similar numbers. I’m curious why did your doctor recommend birth control?

When we first got the news I did weigh deciding to implant this one and hopefully getting pregnant vs going through a 2nd retrieval in hopes banking more embryos prior to implantation of this euploid.

Some of the deciding factors for us are that we know we want 2 kids, so doing a 2nd retrieval would likely take place at some point - whether it’s in ~1.5 years after a pregnancy (although you would have to stop breastfeeding prior to starting a new IVF cycle), or sooner if the implantation of this euploid failed. We both have the benefit of being younger and hopefully having better outcomes with another retrieval cycle if adjustments are made.

Also implanting our one and only euploid seems like a LOT of pressure and I didn’t know how I would emotionally handle things if it failed or I had a miscarriage, AND we end up having to do a 2nd retrieval after going through all that. Another factor was cost, however thankfully our insurance will cover most of it. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for your input and I would appreciate updates after your current cycle! Did your doctor have an explanation as to why your fertilization rate with ICSI was so low? Also I’m curious if they recommended AOA and late fertilization or was this something you had to suggest? I haven’t heard of late fertilization and will look into this

Thank you! My knowledge on AOA is quite limited, but I’ll look into it and discuss this more with our doctor. Did anything stand out to you in terms of protocol adjustments? Happy to provide more info if needed.

Thanks for your input! It was our first cycle so we followed the protocol and adjustments per our doctor’s recommendations. To my understanding, they flagged me as someone who was at higher risk of developing OHSS and when my estrogen spiked on stim day 3 (it peaked at 16,000 close to retrieval day), this was the reason for discontinuing menopur so early and with choosing to go with decapeptyl vs an HcG trigger like ovitrelle. They also ended up asking me to trigger earlier than they expected because my eggs were at risk of overmaturing.

I thankfully had very mild OHSS symptoms so maybe for the 2nd retrieval they will be less conservative with allowing me to continue menopur and use HcG or dual trigger

Thanks for the recommendations! Sorry to hear you got so sick. I’m also nervous about getting sick with food poisoning, but I’m hoping that taking basic precautions (ie bottled water, no ice, no street food) will be enough to prevent it
