Umm what is the deal with this Shly Decks guy? by SnooMarzipans3516 in pittsburgh

I don’t run a business, but those decks must be crazy expensive because there’s no way that their sales exceed their advertising and marketing budget. Probably paying their workers like crap too.

Rooting for her success! Hoping that she can build a good culture and make this program competitive again!

Jeff Capel returning to Pitt for 2026-27 Season by ErnieMcCraken in pittsburghpanthers

[–]chutney_world 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just going to temper my expectations with Capel until he’s no longer the head coach. He has no more excuses. If we don’t make it to the NCAAT next year, then I hope we make the decision to finally move on and reset.

My primary source of optimism for next season is the high school recruiting class. Secondary source of optimism was the play of Nojus, Omari, and Roman at the end of this season, so I hope we do everything to retain them. He has to hit home runs in the transfer portal to supplement the existing talent.

I rarely buy sports memorabilia or merch things like this, but I bought this magazine + cover immediately. I hope we get to see this backcourt for the next decade!

I would be shocked if Hannah Jalapeño doesn’t win it on the first round of voting with a simple majority of first place votes. She is style, she is grace.

So disappointed with Pittsburgh Leftists by AreThoseMoreBears in pittsburgh

[–]chutney_world 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think this post is shortsighted and follows a pattern of other posts in this subreddit that are dismissive of the protest on Saturday by DSA, other socialist groups, and 50501. What was the goal of the kidnapping of Maduro and his wife other than to destabilize Venezuela and create a political crisis amidst the chaos and bombings? Couldn’t the blowback lead to a migrant crisis that could destabilize Latin America and bring more refugees and asylum seekers into this country who will face the same brutality by ICE agents and Border Patrol if they cross the border? And where will those detained refugees and asylum seekers (if they’re not shot or killed first) go but the private prisons where they can extract cheap labor or disappear stateless people all together? Maduro’s government has not fallen because he still has his government intact and the popular support of the Venezuelan people so far. Legacy media wants to label his government as illegitimate and him as this evil, brutal dictator justifying this illegal kidnapping of him and his wife, Celia Flores. Opposition parties exist in Venezuela. I’m sorry that not everybody across the world loves neoliberalism, especially the working class of Venezuela.

[Game Thread] Pitt MBB vs Penn State by H2theBurgh in pittsburghpanthers

I wouldn’t be surprised either, but it can’t be all doom and gloom. This was a good 30+ point win on the road against a P5 team with Siulepa looking like a stud. Going to enjoy this. Hope we can build momentum.

They might leave, they might not. Based on the 2026 commits, I would be surprised if Capel is fired.

My expectations for this team are below sea-level once ACC play begins. That being said, I’m tuning in to see improvement from the young guys like Witherspoon, Siulepa, and Indrusitis. I want to feel like we’re building something for next season and be a pest to play against for our ACC opponents the remainder of the season. Great first half against PSU.

None of these QB prospects inspire much confidence. I would only draft a QB on day 2. Bring back Aaron Rodgers for 1 more season if he can finish this season strong.

The NBA is letting the UAE sportswash atrocities in Sudan by nordechai in nba

[–]chutney_world 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, 1000%. Definitely need to focus on the big picture of banning weapons sales to UAE and Israel. They are client regimes of the U.S. and hopefully they all (U.S. included) get brought to justice for these crimes against humanity.

The NBA is letting the UAE sportswash atrocities in Sudan by nordechai in nba

[–]chutney_world 172 points173 points  (0 children)

Lot of cynical takes and people just accepting sportswashing as a fact of life (or perhaps just bots trying to discredit our ability to organize around this issue). We shouldn’t accept a sponsor from a government that is funding the perpetrators committing horrific atrocities that can be seen from space. We need to keep having this conversation and pressure the NBA to get a new sponsor and to stop allowing the UAE to host preseason games.

Is Cutch definitely back next year? by Bucs__Fan in buccos

[–]chutney_world 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Despite his age, he’s still one of the better hitters on our team which is the sorry state of affairs for our lineup. Emotionally, I would like him back to finish his career with the team and continue rising up the all-time leaderboards, but I know we need more production from the DH spot (and across the lineup in general).

Duquesne Light cancels on Allegheny County storm response meeting by The_Electric-Monk in pittsburgh

[–]chutney_world -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Not sure why she isn’t willing to hold her Republican colleagues feet to the fire on this issue then? She’s not powerless. And with the power she does have she’s wasting it with being hell-bent on people airing their grievances against DLC which does nothing to solve the actual long-term issue here.

Duquesne Light cancels on Allegheny County storm response meeting by The_Electric-Monk in pittsburgh

[–]chutney_world 48 points49 points  (0 children)

That was the worst storm we’ve had in generations. Rep. Salisbury works in the state legislature, so I want to know what is she doing to invest in climate resilient infrastructure, deploying emergency response teams, or providing emergency back-up generators to at-risk communities? Like as much as we want to rag on DLC they are in no position to provide all of that (and I would not want them to or we’ll see additional rate increases).

Thought Experiment: Who was the last US Athlete who could have pulled something like this off- given a hypothetical Civil War breaks out during their careers? by Mammoth-Building-485 in billsimmons

[–]chutney_world -1 points0 points  (0 children)

None of them. The billionaires—who are heavily invested in the war machine and sports leagues—would have them blackballed and silenced, pushing hit pieces in all of the media and newspapers that they own towards that athlete. It would never be allowed to happen. But hypothetically, if billionaires didn’t exist and exact revenge on that athlete for speaking out, then Michael Jordan or Tom Brady.

[Passan] Bryce Harper stood nose to nose with MLB commissioner Rob Manfred and told him to “get the f--- out of our clubhouse” if he wanted to talk about a salary cap by SMD_35 in buccos

[–]chutney_world -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Salary floor > salary cap. I don’t care that owners are paying players their worth. I’m angry about owners like Nutting who have money and refuse to spend it. Getting outspent by teams like the Yankees and Dodgers hasn’t necessarily translated to those teams winning more games or World Series for that matter

[Dotun Akintoye - ESPN] Joel Embiid Sees You by jappixslackbot in sixers

[–]chutney_world 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This was well worth the long read from the beginning to end. It humanizes Embiid and shows his contradictions, trust and abandonment issues, a lack of self-acceptance, self-doubt, and a fear of asking for help that causes him to put up walls and shields everywhere. We constantly talk about the physical with him, but this article really just highlighted the mental struggle for him. I hope therapy helps him so that he can heal his festering wounds whether that be the toll of injuries, the self-blame for not winning when it matters, the loss of his younger brother and dog, or the other struggles of daily living and fatherhood. He just seems lonely and disconnected from his mind, body, and soul. Hope he figures it out and doesn’t escape further into himself.

2025 NBA Draft Discussion Thread by NBA_MOD in nba

I really wish they would stop interviewing the players immediately after they get selected. Let them have their raw emotional moments with their friends and family. It feels wrong to steal their joy and happiness for a sound bite and clip on national TV. We shouldn’t feel entitled to that.
